Rising Stars: Meet Becky Freese

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Freese.

Hi Becky, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Started 7/13/2010 out of my home. Went commercial 7/16/2012. Bought existing building 6/15/2015. Started baking cookies to help our daughter go to college. I worked full-time as a Surgical Services Supervisor at our local hospital, and my husband lost his job of 26 years to the economy crash of 2009. I started baking a few dozen of cookies per week to save for Christmas money, and the cookies took off. I decided to resign from my job 10/2011 and went to baking full time. We have shipped our cookies all over the world and every state in the US. We have 4 employees and offer a full lunch with a dining room that seats 30 patrons and our own wine as well. We have our cookies in 14 other locations (grocery stores and gas stations.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not lol. Just being a woman in business has its obstacles. We shut down for 10 weeks during Covid. Supply struggles are a constant battle, not to mention labor issues. Same problems as most others. I work a lot of hours to continue to grow. I have the cookie recipes in my head, so I am the only one that bakes, and that in itself is a struggle.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our cookies are soft and baked with love. I work every day and deal with the customers. I care if our product is good and personally take care of any problems by going above and beyond to make things right. We are known for our exceptional customer service, and I know about 90% of our customers by name. We serve a mean Chicken Salad and homemade soups as well. I truly believe if you produce a good product consistently and serve with a big ole smile, you will have happy customers.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I love to read, mostly entrepreneurial books; Mel Robbins is one of my favorite podcasts. Dave Ramsey is another must.
