Rising Stars: Meet Barbara Aalderink

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Aalderink.

Hi Barbara, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today. 
I started my marketing business 15 years ago and have always enjoyed being on my own. I also marketed to golf courses all over Michigan for 10 years. My background is in full-service marketing, and have over 35 years in this business. In the 15 years, I have contracted videographers, photographers, web designers, graphic designers, and social media specialists. My business is mainly in West Michigan, but have videographers in 6 states for the non-profit organization Grant Me Hope. We have produced almost 1,000 videos for teenage children and air them on TV stations and their social media to get the adopted or in foster care. We are also very interested in telling stories for businesses and people that want to tell their story,, which is Life’s Legacy. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business takes much work and perseverance. There were times when I wanted to give up, but I worked hard and met with many networking organizations to educate people on our services. I worked alone for many years, and it was difficult to not be able to get creative support. I started with my designer, and she was such a blessing in helping me with ideas through the entire 15 years I’ve been in business. Since then, I have 6 videographers that work with me and 2 social media experts. They have helped me to have faith in my company and never give up.

What matters most to you? Why?
The thing that matters most to me is that I am there for my clients and help them with their business decisions. Many companies will charge for advice, but we listen to them and come up with a marketing solution through a quoting process. We feel that a company should use us as a marketing tool and always let them work slowly into each project and not gouge them with high pricing. I have spent many hours training our contract employees and teaching the sales staff by having them make calls with me in the beginning stages. It’s important to always have a Christian love for my staff and clients.
