Rising Stars: Meet Austreah Garnes of Detroit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austreah Garnes.

Hi Austreah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hey friends Hey! My name is Pinky (MsPinky313) and I’m a Gaming Content Creator and Influencer based out of Detroit, Michigan. I’ve always had a love for video games, ever since Super Mario World on Super Nintendo. Having a background in Television and Radio Production, and I said why not put the two things that I’m passionate about together. Came across Twitch around 2015 and watched some of my favorite creators play and stream my favorite games. I knew that this was my calling. I started gaming content creating and establishing my gaming community, the Pink Squad, in August 2016 on Twitch.

Through gaming content creation, I’ve been able to network with other Gaming Content Creators and well-known companies and brands. I have been able to stream for charities such as F Cancer and Starlight Children’s Fund. It has also led me to be a Gaming Content Creator for Blerd, a gaming podcast Co-Host and Gaming Content Creator for Real Ones Gaming, and Gaming Content Creator for Black Gamer league.

In January 2021, my channel and content began growing rapidly, and that got the attention of many people and organizations. I then applied for the Facebook Black Gaming Creator Program in the same month. A little time went by, and then I was asked to be on the Front Page of Twitch. This sent my content and my channel upward. So I thought it would be a good idea to apply for a partnership with them and was denied. No later than a week I became a Facebook Gaming Partner and a part of the Black Gaming Content Creator Program in March 2021! I say that to say that when one door closes three more will open! I’m also a part of the Noir, network created for Black femmes in content creation with a focus on education & brand development.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
So far, so good. I love the hustle and the grind of it all! I have had some struggles. One of them is being denied partnership with Twitch, Another one is finding the right gaming organization to collaborate and work with. Because you have a lot of organizations that want to be great but don’t put in the work to do so or not be on the same page as you. I had equipment struggles in the beginning but having such an awesome community, I was able to collect tips and donations to upgrade my studio.

But I believe my biggest obstacle right now is visibility. Still, to this day, not a lot of Black women in gaming are being seen in the gaming industry, but all of that is about to change!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in Gaming Content Creation. So that range is endless. I do live streams of my gameplay on Facebook Gaming daily. I create gaming videos of clips, funny reactions, and tips and tricks, I create TikTok videos of my gaming clips and trending challenges. I just recently went viral for my “Loot Goblin” video on there. I also do reviews and unboxings for games, tech, lifestyle, and beauty!

I think the biggest thing that I’m known for at the moment is being the “Aunite” of gaming. I tend to make my content around that “family and home” feeling. I do tend to have a few choices of words during my streams and gameplay, but I make sure if my kids, my nephew, or their friends that you can feel confident that they are safe with “Auntie Pinky”.

I also believe that that is what sets me apart from other people in the gaming industry as a content creator. I make sure to bring love and light into my live streams. Be a positive force into that person that chooses to watch me that day. Because in our times right now you never know what a person is going through, and I want to be able to make that person’s day by saying “hey friend hey!”, “you are love, you are awesome, you are light!”, and positive and loving affirmations. Straight cool auntie vibes!

What’s next?
Right now I’m in the midst of creating and planning my 2022 goals. I want to start creating gaming shows and having them be picked up on gaming platforms. I’ve already started on one called Red Cups and Games, where I invite new and exciting Gaming Content Creators and we sit, talk, have drinks, and play games. Like having “the cookout vibes” mixed with a little Q&A. So far that show is getting a good response. I want to start hosting gaming events and interviewing celebrities.

My end goal is to have a multi-media gaming production studio. A one-stop shop for everything gaming-related. You’ll be able to create your gaming show, do a radio show, podcast, tv show, live stream, create your movie, etc. all from one site. I want to become the Tyler Perry of the gaming industry.
