Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Tremblay.
Ashley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story began at the young age of 2 when I took my first dance class. Many years of dedication, hard work, perseverance, and love went into taking classes and performing. I have crossed paths with many amazing teachers and choreographers who have and continue to help me, guide me, and shape me into the teacher and person I am today.
My eyes opened to what the world of dance was and what it truly could be for me in 2003 when I met Richard Kim. Him and a former teacher (Tania) introduced dance in a way that I never experienced it before. Their teaching inspired me to follow their footsteps. My dance training continued as a student under Richards first years of opening Studio Dance Arts, Canada little did I know It would soon develop into a love for teaching.
Once I graduated high school in 2007 I pursued a degree in management of health and fitness while teaching dance to children in Ontario Canada, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and Grand Rapids, Michigan. I soon found myself speaking once again to Richard who then guided, assisted, and believed in me more than words can imagine in opening Studio Dance Arts in Marquette, Michigan in 2014.
My drive, dedication, and passion has driven me from being a student, to a teacher, and now director. I have and continue to strive in being the best I can be, in creating a community through dance, and ensuring that all feel welcomed and loved just how it once was for me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course there were struggles and challenges. Every challenge i faced along the way was an opportunity to learn, grow stronger, and deepen my passion.
Simple things like learning how to promote the studio, working through challenges with families, and constantly having to remind my self of my mission/ vision I want to embody in my studio are just a few of the challenges.
It’s these very hurdles that shape me into a better version of myself and reinforce my commitment to my journey. Embracing each obstacle with resilience and enthusiasm keeps the fire alive and drives me toward bigger and better goals. |
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I started my dance journey as a student, moved into teaching and now am the director of a studio.
I specialize in offering a diverse and inclusive dance experience for people of all ages. Whether it’s jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, or a more classical dance style, I aim to create a space where everyone feels welcome to explore their movement and express themselves freely.
What I’m most proud of is being able to share my love and passion for dance with children of all ages and skill level, inspiring them to discover their own creativity and confidence through movement from a very young age. I feel my commitment to the youth and the community, and my drive to continue my education to what sets me apart and ensures my studio is a place for all levels and ages.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
“As a dance teacher and studio director who founded my studio from the ground up, people can work with me by enrolling in classes, participating in workshops, or attending performances. Collaboration is also possible through partnerships with local organizations, schools, or community events—bringing dance into new spaces and audiences. Supporting our studio can be as simple as spreading the word, sharing your feedback, or volunteering during events. I’m always open to ideas that help foster a vibrant dance community and inspire others to express themselves through movement.”
