Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Ngock.
Hi Anna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Gloss Nail Atelier started as Nail Gloss back in 2017 out of necessity and evolved from a 1200 SF space to a 3000 SF home for top tier Nail Artists. Having worked in various salons for over 20 years, I felt no salon catered to the wellbeing of Nail Techs and there weren’t room for growth to become a true Nail Artist, nor were spaces built out with both Client and Staff comfort in mind.
My goal was to bring my formal passion in nails to life by offering all the importance of sanitation and proper nailery to a very deserving audience. To create a fun Nail Social all while providing unadulterated Nail Services.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The most difficult part of building an almost perfect salon in my eyes was to curate and guide staff members toward my vision. Coaching and inspiring our Team was truly a labor of love for my industry. To service the general public and keep our doors open to all different types of people requires us to challenge ourselves to be more empathetic and kinder. It teaches us patience and shows us we can make progress in this ever-evolving landscape of the beauty industry.
One of the bumps on the road for us was when our expansion came, it became evident not everyone had the same goals and values. More than half of our original team left us to the allure of Covid “Salon Suites.” We then sought to grow our team on a more genuine experience. We persevered and the results of our 2.0 team truly highlights authenticity as a Nail Artist.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work as a Nail Artist is a mutually beneficial experience. I strive to achieve works that are not only satisfactory for myself, but also for my clients. Each and every client that sits with me have unique goals. I can provide normalcy in fixing nails that have been damaged by an accident or naturally occurring to rebuild and restore the nails to normalcy. If there’s a mechanic’s hands that needs to look good for an event, I can also remove any signs of the hands’ signs of labor. The level of detail I place into my work for artificial nail enhancements can last up to 4 weeks. (At one point in time, women traveling overseas for at least 4 weeks would seek me out for nail enhancements citing it would last their entire trip.)
I truly believe that at some degree, looking good and feeling good are in relativity.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
The beauty industry simultaneously is a subjective and objective line of work. An industry where both the golden rule and platinum rule must be applied even at its most dichotomous levels of selection. The work must be of quality and also satisfy the eye of the beholder.
