Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Kusmierz.
Hi Andrea, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Ever since I was young, I’ve had a natural eye for order and design. I’d find myself tidying store shelves, asking to repaint my room, or helping rearrange furniture until a space just felt right. Spatial awareness, functionality, and the pure joy of creating beautiful, balanced environments have been a part of me for as long as I can remember. So when it came time to choose a college major, interior design was the clear choice—it was the one path that truly excited me, sparked my creativity, and felt like something I could dedicate my life to.”
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
“Like many new graduates, I faced my share of challenges after college. The job market was tough—design firms wanted to see extensive portfolios before taking a chance on someone new, and the alternative was often unpaid internships. I had already completed unpaid internships during school and needed to earn a living, so I took on two jobs: working part-time at a kitchen and bath shop while also handling HR duties at a local credit union. Even in the design shop, I quickly realized that clients tended to gravitate toward more experienced designers. Building trust as someone fresh in the field wasn’t easy, but it taught me a lot about perseverance and the realities of starting out in the design world.”
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in helping people truly love their space. My goal with every project is to create an environment that feels authentic, functional, and deeply personal to the client. My design style tends to blend natural and neutral tones—think greens, blues, creams, and blacks—layered with organic elements like wood, metal, and soft textures. I do a lot of work within the coastal design space, but I like to think of my style as timeless and grounded rather than trend-driven.
What really sets me apart is how I connect with my clients. I love taking the time to understand who they are—their tastes, how they live, what they want their home to feel like—and then surprising them with a finished space that goes beyond what they imagined. Whether it’s a small refresh or a full renovation, I pride myself on being flexible and creative, working within any budget to make something truly special. At the end of the day, nothing makes me prouder than seeing someone walk into their space and light up because it finally feels like them.”
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I owe so much of my journey to the people who have supported me from the very beginning. My parents are at the top of that list—they encouraged me to follow my passion for design without ever questioning my choice. They never pushed me toward something ‘more practical’ or ‘higher paying,’ and that kind of unwavering belief meant everything. My mom has actually been part of nearly every project since I started—she loves a good shopping trip and has a real eye for detail. One of our favorite moments is always the final reveal, seeing a space completely transformed and remembering where it started.
I also have to give credit to my husband. He’s been my biggest cheerleader through every challenge, helping me problem-solve tricky installations and encouraging me when things felt overwhelming. His support, patience, and belief in me have made such a difference as I continue to grow my business. I truly couldn’t have done it without them.”
