Today we’d like to introduce you to Wanda Liddell.
Wanda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I first started cooking when I was young coming from a family of great cooks, chef, and Bakers. I began just having people over to my house on Sundays.I would cook these big meals and then people started asking me to do small Gatherings for them. I began to develop a desire to go to culinary school so I went to GRCC. I graduated, and begin to pursue a career in the restaurant food industry. I also continued catering small gatherings and then which turned into some weddings. In 2012 I finally decided that it was time to come out of the basement, and so while still working full time I begin to go through the process of building my business which led me to Kitchen 242 where I currently cater out of, and ever since then things have really just grown and increased for Dominion Kingdom catering. I love to cook in volumes large meals I get my greatest joy out of just watching people be satisfied that’s why my motto is it’s not just a meal, but an experience not just the food but customer service and everything that goes along with it to drive people back to you again. I also get the opportunity to meet many many people that I probably would have never met if I wasn’t in the business of cooking but it’s also a people business too. We love what we do.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No it has its ups and down. It’s a lot of hard work, but my faith and trust in God has helped pull me through, along with a lot of prayers! Some of my struggles along the way was finding a place where I could cater out of and then finding the right people to help and where and whom do i talk too getting started, to legalize my business. also at the time because I was working full-time to be able one day to work full-time doing my catering doing the thing that I love.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a caterer you want to be creative and keep up with what’s trending, but you also should use the god given talents you have, and for me it’s always been mixing ingredients together too see what works. I love putting flavors together, and mixing them up. Your food should not just look good, but it has to taste good as well, because people eat with their eyes so to speak I’m known for that, and it speaks for itself and its important for me to provide an experience for our customers that they will remember through the food, service, taste, flavors, that will bring them back again for their next event. I also have gotten into another healthy creative side over the last 3 years I have been doing flavored sea moss, elderberry tea, turmeric and ginger shots. I begin to develop an interest in it when covid hit, it also is growing right now I offer flavors in seamoss strawberry, pineapple, lemon blueberry, mango, blueberry, and raspberry. I believe it’s important for our bodies to have that balance.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Yes! All of the above. Anything that has to do with food I’ll look at, listen to, and read. I love to watch the cooking shows especially chopped, and Iron Chef. I also listen to some motivational speakers. I also seek counsel from people that are around me especially my pastors, family, and Friends
