Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Wejrowski.
Hi Tyler, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
About Wojo Co.
Wojo Co. is a Michigan-based, vertically integrated cannabis company headquartered in Pinconning, Michigan, specializing in premium solventless cannabis products. What began as a medical cannabis caregiving operation has grown into one of Michigan’s better-known producers of live rosin, hash, flower, infused pre-rolls, vapes, edibles, and other solventless products.
From Caregiving to Wojo
Founder and CEO Tyler Wejrowski began as a medical cannabis caregiver in 2011. When Michigan passed the Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act in 2016, he saw an opportunity to transition from caregiving into the state’s emerging licensed cannabis industry.
Wejrowski left his job, developed a business plan, and began looking for investors. He eventually partnered with longtime friend Jay Janicke, and together they purchased approximately 46 acres in Pinconning in 2017.
Wejrowski grew up in nearby Bay City and selected Pinconning in part because of its proximity to home and because the community was among the first Michigan townships to opt into the state’s medical cannabis program. The company took its name from Wejrowski’s longtime nickname, “Wojo.”
Wojo initially planned to begin commercial operations shortly after Michigan’s adult-use cannabis market launched in 2018. Those plans were interrupted when another cannabis operation opened a large cultivation and processing facility nearby, consuming the available electrical capacity in the area.
Wojo was forced to wait roughly three years for the electrical grid to be expanded. Although the delay was difficult, it ultimately gave the company additional time to reconsider its strategy, refine its facility and determine what would differentiate Wojo in an increasingly competitive Michigan cannabis market.
The Move to Solventless
During that period, Wejrowski made one of the decisions that would ultimately define the Wojo brand: focusing on solventless extraction.
He had seen many producers making butane hash oil and wanted to take a different approach that did not rely on hydrocarbon solvents. He purchased a press, began experimenting with solventless extraction, and later attended a workshop in Las Vegas to deepen his knowledge of the process.
After returning to Michigan, he applied what he had learned to Wojo’s production methods.
The company’s early solventless work quickly gained recognition. Wojo earned first place for non-solvent hash in the 2018 High Times Midwest Cannabis Cup with Cream D’Mint, now known as Wojo Mints.
That success helped validate the direction of the company and became an important early milestone for the Wojo brand.
Building the Wojo Facility
Wojo’s Pinconning facility officially began operating in 2023.
The modern cultivation and processing facility reflects the company’s identity throughout the building, including Wojo’s signature yellow branding. Wejrowski was heavily involved in the facility’s build-out, from installing irrigation piping to creating decorative elements throughout the space.
Wojo holds both processing and Class C cultivation licenses. Its cultivation operation has the capacity for up to approximately 6,000 plants, with as many as 50 strains in rotation at a given time.
The company harvests every week on a carefully planned production schedule. Only a relatively small portion of its flower is preserved for bulk flower sales, while much of the harvest is specifically cultivated and processed for extraction.
Wojo has grown to a team of roughly 50 people.
Cultivation and Solventless Production
Wojo’s production philosophy centers on preserving the characteristics of the cannabis plant from cultivation through the finished product.
Immediately following harvest, plants destined for solventless extraction are cut, frozen and prepared for processing. Plant material is fully frozen before being bagged to help prevent mold and preserve terpene profiles.
The frozen material is then washed in Wojo’s stainless-steel hash washing system. Reverse-osmosis-filtered water is used during the process to separate the plant’s trichome heads from the remaining plant material.
Wejrowski has compared this separation process to “panning for gold,” with the valuable trichome heads collected for the next stages of production.
The collected hash is spread onto trays and placed into freeze dryers for approximately 24 hours to remove moisture. The result is a dry, concentrated material that can then be processed into rosin.
Wojo uses a 25-ton Flux heat press, combining carefully controlled pressure and temperature to transform the dried hash into live rosin without using hydrocarbon solvents.
That live rosin serves as the foundation for a significant portion of Wojo’s product lineup.
Wojo’s Product Portfolio
Wojo has expanded well beyond traditional jars of live rosin while maintaining solventless extraction at the center of its product development.
The company’s lineup includes Wojo Wax live rosin, Wo-Go live rosin vapes, infused pre-rolls, Wojo Solventless Oil (WSO), flower, and Wojo Rubzz, a rosin-infused medicated body rub, among other products.
After packaging and inspection, Wojo products are distributed to several hundred dispensaries throughout Michigan.
To make the company’s large strain and product portfolio easier for consumers to understand, Wojo organizes its products into five flavor collections:
Citrus, Funky, Gassy, Floral and Candy.
Rather than relying solely on traditional indica, sativa and hybrid classifications, the flavor collections help consumers navigate Wojo’s products based on terpene profiles, aromas and flavor experiences.
Quality, Consistency and Full-Spectrum Products
Wojo’s approach is built around quality, consistency and purity, with an emphasis on preserving the plant’s full spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes.
The extended period before Wojo’s commercial launch ultimately gave the team additional time to test equipment, refine cultivation techniques, develop extraction processes and establish the standards that would become part of the company’s identity.
Instead of immediately building its operation at maximum scale, Wojo tested processes on a smaller level before expanding. The cultivation facility uses high-pressure sodium lighting as well as LED and under-canopy lighting to improve production and yields.
The company has also been selective about what it produces internally. Rather than manufacturing every possible product category in-house, Wojo has chosen to collaborate with established Michigan companies when those partnerships can bring additional expertise to a product.
True North Collective Collaboration
One example is Wojo’s collaboration with fellow Michigan cannabis producer True North Collective.
Rather than developing an entire gummy manufacturing operation internally, Wojo partnered with True North to create colorful, triangle-shaped 50mg solventless gummies inspired by Wojo’s five signature flavor collections.
The partnership allows Wojo to extend its solventless philosophy into edibles while working with an experienced manufacturer.
Awards and Industry Recognition
Awards have been part of Wojo’s history since before the company’s commercial launch.
Its early first-place finish for non-solvent hash at the 2018 High Times Midwest Cannabis Cup helped establish the direction of the brand.
Wojo has continued to receive recognition at cannabis competitions, including awards from events such as Best in Grass, Top Shelf Showdown and Bring Your Best. In 2025, Wojo’s Lemon Stank earned top rosin honors at Bring Your Best, and 3 more in 2026 from the same competition.
The company’s growing collection of awards is displayed prominently at its Pinconning headquarters and reflects its continued emphasis on cultivation, hash making and solventless extraction.
The Wojo Philosophy
Wojo’s growth has been shaped as much by the challenges it encountered as by its successes.
The unexpected three-year delay in launching the commercial facility forced the company to slow down at a time when Michigan’s cannabis industry was rapidly expanding. Instead of abandoning the project or rushing to catch up, Wojo used the additional time to refine its plans and build the company around a specific identity.
That meant investing in equipment, learning solventless extraction in depth, refining genetics and cultivation, assembling a team focused on quality, and building a product portfolio around the care that goes into each stage of production.
Today, Wojo operates as a vertically integrated Michigan cannabis company with cultivation, processing, product development and statewide distribution. While the company has grown considerably from Wejrowski’s beginnings as a caregiver in 2011, the underlying philosophy remains rooted in craft cannabis and a hands-on approach to production.
As Wejrowski explained when reflecting on the company’s journey, Wojo may have missed the initial “green rush,” but the additional time allowed the team to build a brand rather than simply rush products to market.
For Wojo, the biggest differentiator is ultimately the care put into every part of the process, from genetics and cultivation through washing, pressing, product development and the final experience for the consumer.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Our solventless live rosin extraction method using reverse osmosis water. We do not use dirty ice like many other brands.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
