Meet Tyler Mulville of Rochester Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Mulville.

Tyler Mulville

Hi Tyler, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up as the youngest of 3 in my family and learned firsthand from my parents how to work hard and keep going. As long as I can remember I was always interested in film, movies and art in general. I can thank a lot of that to my older brother Pat as he was a mentor to me when it came to capturing anything with a camera. I even remember a few times as kids my sister and I making short films with my dad’s massive vhs camera. Still to this day some of my favorite “shoots” were with my cousins making movies in my parent’s basement, we were pretty good filmmakers as kids, when we weren’t making each other laugh. I ended up going to college at Michigan State University (Go Green) and really started to fall in love with filming events and stories. As one of the producers of a small student run campus show, MSU&U, I got firsthand experience with setting up interviews with people like Mac Miller, Morris Chestnut and the football team.

After graduating from college I kind of fell into the wedding industry thanks to my brother and pushing me in that direction as a videographer. I ended up starting my own company in January of 2020 and well, we all know what happened after that…. It was a tough couple years navigating all the challenges and reschedules due to shutdowns but it ended up working out in the end. In 2022 I got married to my girl, and the love of my life Skylar (Yes Skylar and Tyler) where she has constantly supported me in my journey and made me who I am today. It’s thanks to her that my business was even created. By 2023 I started receiving more and more bookings from word of mouth and a big help from photographers like Dave & Ang Photography suggesting me to couples as their videographer, which has been a big help. As of today I officially shot my last wedding of the 2025 season and I can’t believe how fast it all went. I’m very proud of what I accomplished this year and even more excited to say that the 2026 season will be the busiest of my career.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running a business definitely has its ups and downs but staying mentally focused and disciplined has made navigating the struggles worth it. That first season as a small business owner in 2020 was not ideal but I kept telling my self to “keep going” and eventually we would see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve definitely learned more about how the wedding industry works and how to network with other creative people. It’s a big industry but I’ve always told myself to let my work do the talking while also putting quality over quantity. I never saw myself as a independent business owner growing up, which is odd because my dad ran a window washing business his entire career, and each year I see myself taking a lot from what I learned working with him and implementing it in my own company. I can still remember him working all day running up and down ladders and still having time to watch me in a baseball game. Whenever I’m exhausted after a 10 hour wedding day I think about that a lot and it humbles you really quick. At the end of the day my job is important for preserving memories and moments of one of the most important days of your life 100%, but I’m not a doctor, teacher or a soldier overseas like my cousin Chris. Those are real struggles. I’m privileged I get to make wedding films and do what I do.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a wedding filmmaker and independent business owner of Tyler James Motion Pictures. Whether you are getting married on top of a mountain or in your family’s backyard, I want to tell your story. My goal at every wedding is to perfectly capture all the emotions of your day through my lens so when you re-watch it every year on your anniversary you can relive the best day of your lives. Everyone has such different stories on how they met, where they come from, and all the unique backstories to their wedding, and being able to be a part of their big day is very humbling. I am definitely most proud of the quality my wedding films and how quickly I am able to turn them around. I’ve heard stories of couples not receiving their video for nearly 6 months and that baffles me. I guarantee my couples a one month turnaround but this past 2025 season I was able to turn every single wedding around in two weeks.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My wife and our Golden Retriever Ghost. They are why I work hard and who I care for the most. They are also my biggest supporters anytime I may have self doubt or that feeling of “imposter syndrome” that a lot of creative people get. Skylar’s love, strength and presence are the glue to our family and having that support when I’m coming home late from a long wedding day is the best feeling. Ghost is also great listener to any of my troubles, as long as you’re giving him pets he’ll listen to you all day…
