Meet Troy Titans Ftc 23952 of Troy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Troy Titans Ftc 23952

Hi Troy Titans, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
First, we would like to thank you, Voyage magazine, for your valuable time and for representing FTC Team 23952 – Troy Titans. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who is helping and supporting us in our journey to learn and grow.

The Troy Titans, FTC team 23952, was founded in the year 2023. We started the team with 13 young and innovative 6th and 7th graders. Today we have 15 talented kids in our team from 6, 7, and 8th grades.

We prioritize teamwork and efficiency, with everyone contributing significantly to our robot and community
engagement. We have been working diligently this season to achieve our learning goals.

Even though it’s our second year in robotics, we were recognized in the 2024 Spring Troy MEYhem event for exceptional effort, advancing to the semi-finals and securing the prestigious “Think Award”.

Additionally, we’re thrilled to announce that FTC Team 23952 Troy Titans has qualified for the state competition, earning the prestigious Inspire Award’s 2nd place! We secured a perfect 5-0 record and ranked 1st in one of the 2024 qualifier matches that was held at Belleville High School, Detroit on Saturday 11/09/2024.

We extend sincere gratitude to FTC team 11717 Circuit Breakers for joining our alliance in the semifinals. Thank you to the judges, referees, and FTC for recognizing Troy Titans!!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting an FTC team with mostly 6th graders and bringing them to the competition stage is no easy feat.

The FTC Team 23952 – Troy Titans initially faced challenges in designing a complete robot and being organized. We needed adult mentors to assist us in integrating our bot’s programming with its build. Every one of our team members started documenting the day-to-day work, challenges, and solutions that they faced while building the robot. It helped us to keep track of our progress.

Our build and program coaches provided support whenever we encountered obstacles. Mentors also took care of business, finance, and outreach aspects. However, as a second-year FTC team, we have significantly improved our multitasking skills. We’ve learned to handle both building and programming while actively participating in various robotics demonstrations and community events.

FIRST is not only teaching us how to build a robot. It teaches us, to be kind, gracious professionals, Learn from each other, be a great team player and leaders, to be creative and fun. We believe that the FTC helped us to earn the prestigious “Inspire Award” this season and qualified for States by following their goals.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Troy Titans 23952 is a dedicated robotics team participating in the FTC. Each year, when the First Tech Challenge is announced, we begin designing our robot. On the competition field, we showcase our strength as a team by competing against various other teams. We specialize in creating robots with unique and innovative designs.

We take great pride in our teamwork. We listen to each other’s ideas and share our knowledge. If the build team encounters difficulties, the programming team steps in to assist. What sets the Troy Titans apart is that everyone on our team is skilled in both building and programming, and we always support each other.

Balancing building and programming tasks can be challenging, but the Troy Titans excel at it.

Our clear mantra for a successful team includes:

Clear Planning
Team Collaboration
Task Rotation
Time Management
Mentor Support

Along with the success and learning we are also focusing on reaching out to our local community and helping them in different ways,
Community Outreaches:
Adopt a road program – Helping the community to clean and maintain a safe environment.
Gluten-free food donation – Partnered with one of the FTC teams Girl Botz 22918 and donated gluten-free food to Morse Elementary Troy.
Designed cards for hospitalized kids to help them feel special.
Bottomless Toy Chest – Partnered with Bottomless Toy Chest to wrap gifts for hospitalized kids.
Book donations.
Robotics demonstration at Barnard Elementary Big Top Fair program, TPL Summer Kick-Off event, Troy Community Center to educate and inspire the elementary kids to learn more about STEM.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We welcome collaboration and support from individuals and organizations passionate about robotics and STEM education. Here are some ways you can get involved with the Troy Titans:

1. Mentorship:
Mentors are experts in engineering, programming, or project management. Mentors’ guidance always helps us overcome challenges and achieve our goals.

2. Sponsorship: Financial support is crucial for acquiring materials, and tools, and covering competition expenses. Sponsors can also provide in-kind donations of equipment or services.

Last summer, we received a call from one of the head coaches at Athens High School’s Troy FRC team, Argonauts, informing us that Magna Corporation was hosting an FTC robotics demonstration.

They emphasized that the Troy Titans, being in our second year, should seize this opportunity to showcase our talent. Recognizing the significance of this event, our team eagerly participated and had the chance to engage with many potential visitors.

3. Workshops and Training: Conduct workshops or training sessions to help us enhance our skills in specific areas like CAD design, coding, or electronics.

At the beginning of this year, we had the opportunity to visit FANUC America Corporation.

The visit to FANUC America Corporation had a profound impact on our team. It provided us with a firsthand look at advanced robotics in action, which was incredibly inspiring. Seeing the intricate designs and powerful capabilities of FANUC’s robots sparked our curiosity and motivated us to push the boundaries of our projects.

This experience also reinforced the importance of teamwork and innovation. We saw how professionals collaborate to create complex systems, which encouraged us to improve our collaboration and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the tour gave us new ideas and techniques that we could apply to our robot designs, enhancing both our technical knowledge and our enthusiasm for robotics.

Overall, the visit was a pivotal moment for the Troy Titans, fueling our passion for robotics and driving us to strive for excellence in our endeavors.
