Meet Tracy Park of Michigan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Park.

Hi Tracy , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For over 35 years, flowers have truly been my medium. I started in the floral industry at a young age and quickly realized I loved not just the creativity, but the emotion behind weddings and events. Over the years, I owned and operated a retail floral shop for 15 years while also raising four children, and eventually transitioned back to working from my home studio where I could focus more on custom wedding and event design.

Today, Park Place Design Floral specializes in organic, romantic, and trend-forward floral design for weddings across Michigan. I’ve had the privilege of learning from some of the top professionals in the floral industry, and that experience has shaped the lush, artistic style I’m known for today. My passion has always been creating florals that feel personal, memorable, and beautifully connected to each couple’s story.

Even after all these years, I still get excited every wedding morning. Designing with flowers is not just my career — it’s truly a part of who I am.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all — like most small business owners, there were many challenges along the way. Building a floral business while raising four children was a balancing act, especially during busy wedding seasons when long hours and weekends became the norm. The floral industry is also physically demanding, emotionally driven, and constantly changing with trends, pricing, and client expectations.

Owning a retail shop for 15 years came with its own struggles as well — staffing, overhead, holidays, and eventually navigating the changes that affected many small businesses after COVID. One of the hardest decisions I made was stepping away from the storefront and transitioning back to a home-based studio. But in many ways, it brought me back to what I truly love most: the creative side of weddings and working more personally with my couples.

Through every challenge, I kept going because flowers and design have always been part of who I am. The struggles taught me resilience, adaptability, and how important it is to create a business that still allows room for passion and creativity after all these years.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Being an artist and creative has never felt like just a job to me — it’s simply who I am. Flowers became my artistic outlet very early in life, and over the past 35 years I’ve been able to turn that creativity into a career designing weddings and events throughout Michigan. I’ve always been drawn to texture, movement, color palettes, and creating designs that feel emotional and personal rather than overly traditional.

My style has evolved over the years, but I’m especially known for organic, romantic florals with a refined, trend-forward feel. I love taking a couple’s vision and translating it into something unique to them. No two weddings should ever feel exactly the same, and that creative challenge is what still excites me after all these years.

As a creative professional, I’ve learned that artistry is not just about making something beautiful — it’s about making people feel something. Some of my favorite moments are seeing a bride hold her bouquet for the first time or watching guests walk into a transformed space. Those reactions remind me why I still love what I do so much

What’s next?
After many years of owning a retail floral shop, one of my biggest recent changes has been transitioning back to a home-based studio and focusing more intentionally on weddings and events — the part of the industry I truly love most. It has allowed me to slow down in some ways while still continuing to create meaningful, high-end floral work for my clients throughout Michigan.

Looking ahead, I want to continue growing Park Place Design Floral in a way that feels creative and fulfilling rather than overwhelming. I’m excited about expanding my online presence, reaching more couples through social media and my website, and continuing to evolve artistically with new floral trends and designs. I also look forward to having a little more balance in life — traveling more, spending time with friends and family, camping, and enjoying the freedom that comes with this new chapter of semi-retirement.

Most of all, I’m grateful that after 35 years, I still genuinely love what I do. I still get excited for wedding mornings, I am now 60 and I will think about retirement in a couple of years
