Meet Tony Nawrocki of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Nawrocki

Hi Tony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Holland, Michigan and went to West Ottawa high school playing hockey and lacrosse. West Michigan is where I found my love of filmmaking / music and a core group of friends to make both with. After graduation, I went to film school at Columbia College Chicago where I expanded my work and created my award winning short film shot on super 16mm “When Skies are Blue”. My journey took me to Los Angeles where I settled in Highland Park and became a Location Scout and Manager working on studio movies and commercials. I continue to play live music in Los Angeles and love splitting my time between LA and Lake Michigan where I record new music with friends and live the lake life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Everyone faces their own challenges. For me, the toughest has been being away from my family and West Michigan community. As a creative, the path is rarely clear, and finding time to balance work with artistic pursuits can be a real struggle. Focusing on shooting film photos and playing music everyday helps keep me creative.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
By day, I work as a location scout and manager, known for my ability to find unique locations and bridge the gap between location owners and creative teams. I’ve been lucky to work on incredible projects like the movie Her, 20th Century Women and the latest season of Monsters on Netflix. However, my greatest passion lies in my music, especially my album Ladyslipper, which I had the pleasure of recording in West Michigan with talented friends who truly elevate each track. I am tenacious and go after my artistic vision pushing projects through to the finish line.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor can be tough but you have to be resilient and not let it shake your confidence. Look to people who are doing what you want to do and seek them out. Offer to buy them a coffee and try to bring your passion to what they are working on. For networking, in general, make friends with everyone. You never know who you are going to meet and what you will have in common. I also enjoy helping and guiding young talent. I was in their shoes once and if I can help them – maybe they will remember me along the way.
