Meet Tonja Ayers of The Shoe Lady Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tonja Ayers.

Tonja Ayers

Hi Tonja, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My love for shoes started my journey into retail, which I enjoyed for many years. In 2019, I published my first book… 2014, I produced my first stage play. 2015, I produced my first film, and now I have fully transitioned into filmmaking.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been smooth; however, I don’t believe I have experienced major obstacles. I have been able to maneuver around the ones I have been faced with, but I believe obstacles are lessons. My obstacles have forced me to grow and learn more about myself as a woman and as an entrepreneur.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
2023 will be my last year of brick-and-mortar retail. My shoe business is shifting to online only. I plan to spend 2024 focusing on writing and producing films. Money Over Everything, Chocolate Kiss 2, Untamed, Widow’s Fire, What’s Good? and God Forgives, I Don’t are films I wrote or produced this year. The Landlord, Ten Toes Down, and Missing are slated for first quarter of 2024, written by myself and Regine Coney. I think what sets me apart from others is my attempt to own a diverse catalogue.

I joined forces with Black-Smith Enterprises to produce a Tubi original titled “God Forgives, I Don’t,” which is based on a story I wrote. To witness a note, I wrote in my phone metamorphosis into a blockbuster film is amazing.

One of my goals is to adapt all of my urban literature from books to film. The film Rotten is adapted from my book “The Apple Don’t Fall Far from The Tree.” “Low Down” and “Sorry” will be my next books to make that transition.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I actually learn a lot from Facebook and Instagram videos. The algorithm is usually presenting me with something educational. There’s lots of retail, filmmaking, and business jewels on TikTok as well.
