Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim And Michelle Esper.
Tim and Michelle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Michelle and I met back in 2015, when we were both working at LifeTime Fitness. She was a massage therapist, while I was a personal trainer. We both had a passion for helping people, along with similar goals and a strong personal connection. (One of the goals was to open our own facility together someday) We began dating one another, and in 2017 we got married in Hawaii, then in 2018 we had our first child. In 2019, we had our second child, another girl. While balancing, or at least trying to balance being new parents, as well as continuing to work, in 2020 the Pandemic hit. We were both unable to work, and went on temporary unemployment. There were some silver linings though. One was that we were able to spend a lot more time together as a family, and with our daughters being so young, it was truly a blessing. The other blessing in disguise, was that it gave us the free time needed to start planning and truly pursuing our originally goal of opening a fitness and wellness facility together. We began running mock projections for client lists, cost analysis, emailing equipment companies, and looking into potential locations.
Then as things began to open back up again, in October of 2020, we received the keys to our new facility location in Wixom and opened the doors in December.
Since then, we have continued to thrive, and strive to help as many people that we come across as possible. Michelle continues to do massages, I continue to do training, coach nutrition and classes, and we have been blessed to team up with local businesses to help their employees and others around the community as well.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As business is not either of our concentrations, me coming from a public safety background of law enforcement and fire, and Michelle having her degree in kinesiology, there was a huge learning curve in owning and operating our own place. Luckily, we are determined and have been incredibly blessed to be surrounded by people who were willing to help wherever they could.
Learning business, and financials has definitely been the hardest road. But through the mistakes we have made, we have learned so much along the way, and continue to learn and grow every day. Which is exactly how Life goes. You try things, make mistakes, learn, grow, and as long as you don’t give up, you eventually figure it out and get where you want to be.
While our goals continue to grow and change, and now we have a third child as well (a son), it continues to be an enjoyable endeavor and a passion of mine to keep learning new things, and keep striving for greatness.
We’ve been impressed with HomeTeam Fitness and Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a small, family owned and operated facility, that specializes in all aspects of fitness and wellness. Our training services individuals from young to old, weight loss to competitive athletes, recovery, and everything in between. We pride ourselves on being able to in some way, shape, or form, being able to help anyone who comes across our path.
It is our hope to continue to grow our community, and help as many people as we can. We also make sure that everyone who walks through our doors knows how much they are appreciated, and feels like they are a key part of the HomeTeam family.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is very subjective. It’s difficult to measure, especially in fitness, and especially as a coach. This is because we only get to give the guidance and coaching, while it is up to the individual to actually implement the information and put it into practice to get the results.
However, success to me, is being able to continue to do what I’m passionate about. Changing lives, while striving to better myself and the future of my family. If I can be better than I was the day before, that to me, is success. And if I can help to change just one person’s life for the better, that too is success.
