Meet Tiffany Damle of Tiffany Jane Interiors

Today we would like to introduce you to Tiffany Damle

Hi Tiffany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Tiffany Jane Interiors – I am the principal and designer of Tiffany Jane Interiors design firm. I began this business out of a longtime realization that beautiful spaces can evoke strong, positive emotions like peace, safety, and calm; conversely, a poorly designed or drab space can evoke chaos, sadness, or even despair. Aesthetics are powerful, and I’ve felt that since I was a child. My father is a carpenter and used to take us into Chicago to explore the massive historic buildings that he was rehabbing. We spent weekends looking through the drawers of old oak desks with ink- wells, trunks, and other treasures we found amongst the forgotten rooms; rooms lavishly adorned with woodwork, architraves, and bookcases. My father taught me to appreciate the qualities of fine wood and antiques, highlighting how they can be restored to a condition better than new. My mother was, and is, an avid decorator. Our home was always uniquely styled and decorated, and I was always so proud to have friends over to see it. I have learned a lot from watching my mother put together little vignettes throughout the home, style a bookshelf, and use bold, bright colors and patterns. My childhood was an amalgamation of my father’s and mother’s influence of design, and my love of Chicago’s architecture. I have always been passionate about interior design, you can say it’s in my blood. My courage to start my own firm came from designing and decorating numerous homes for my husband and myself. Friends, family, neighbors, and even buyers of one of my homes, have asked for my assistance in creating beautiful spaces. This inspired me to create Tiffany Jane Interiors, a full-service interior design firm.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?

For the most part, my path has been a smooth one. At the beginning, it felt like the universe and I were aligned. As I progressed, my projects naturally became larger, more involved, and higher end. As soon as I finished one project, another awaited. The most difficult challenge I have had to face is having the confidence in my business to scale and bring on a couple of employees in the near future.

We appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Tiffany Jane Interiors?

I am an interior designer, and I specialize in residential and boutique commercial projects. My tagline is, “Artfully Intertwining the historic and modern.” My niche in interior design is understanding the value in restoration and preservation of historic homes and details, while marrying those details to a modern and comforting aesthetic that is practical to today’s way of living. My appreciation for architecture and restoration came at an early age while observing my father’s loving care of historic buildings in Chicago. Since those days, the smell of fresh cut wood straight from the miter- box or running my hand across a beautifully patinated quarter-sawn oak panel, evokes a deep sense of nostalgia for me. I take immense pride and joy in showing others how these materials can be brought back to life, and even made to feel current, without denigrating the historic integrity that makes them so special.

My secret weapon in design though, is that I’m not afraid to break the rules. There are general guidelines that I like to follow in terms of spacing, and scale for certain. However, I feel that nearly every other rule is up for grabs. I like to challenge norms. Color is a powerful tool in creating mood, and evoking feelings. Color can create balance, or throw balance off kilter, which can create a space that can be exciting, gripping, and compelling. I like to dance in the space of “what if…”, and I take the client by the hand on that journey with me.

My integrity in life, and my work, are fundamentally most important to me. It is essential that my client understands they can rely on me, and that their narrative will be accurately conveyed, not mine. Superior design is rooted in imagination and balanced with practicality and collaboration. This is the formula that I bring to the table with each project.

We would love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
In design, I openly welcome the ability to take risks. After all, it is a multi-faceted world, and nothing is more boring than a world of beige. Taking risks in design has often led to the most beautiful and unique outcomes, ultimately leading to entirely custom and individualized spaces for my clients. Taking risks and diving in headfirst with a client can be one of the most fulfilling experiences when coming out on the other end together and feeling gratification in an awe-inspiring creation. Whether that is a 1920’s style handcrafted bar in an ultra-modern city townhouse, a bold wallpaper, an oversized chandelier, or a whole room of teal and peach terrazzo, bold is often better in my opinion.
