Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Ball.
Hi Tiffany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started modeling at 15 years old with an agency-like company. Honestly, as a kid, all I wanted to do was become an actress- I’m a California girl then moved to Michigan at 10, so they quickly changed. I learned Michigan was very big in the fashion/ modeling market. I did my first show in 2015, then a whole year later my second. It was very discouraging to be young, petite, and trying to get into what many consider an impossible field that I was passionate about. Being a high schooler, I wasn’t into sports too much so I gravitated towards modeling, it was pick one or the other and that’s when I got all in, around my junior year I was doing about 2-3 fashion shows a month, going to castings, finding my own work all that really made me that much more dedicated and motivated to grow. Starting out with an “agency” and getting what felt like nowhere then, saying hey if you just look, you’ll find it and going at it hard, I’ve accomplished a lot. I’ve been modeling consistently for 7 years now- I have had the opportunity to model coach, struct my stuff around the Detroit Zoo, and even land paid work as petite models in a shoot fave brand of mine. A few things that inspired to keep me going is my kiddos, my nieces, and cousins always share they have a model aunt or cousin. I want my babies to know you can be seen and heard and go at all that feels impossible you can cover up, you can beat the odds, and you can live that life you dream of. How I grew up, there wasn’t a lot of positive influences so I want to be that not just for them but all the youth that think it’s impossible and that it could never be them. Starting modeling has gotten me into so many other avenues I never thought I’d have interest in, from teaching myself photography to help models feel comfortable in front of the camera because I didn’t at times to becoming a self-taught makeup artist because I’ve had a million cases of my skin tone not being matched correctly because a lot of MUA don’t work with women of color on a day to day basis, and my most recent endeavor content creation which I’ve gotten into the past year and now I’ve even gotten to partner with some of my favorite brands. Today I am so proud of where I started because it got me here. It’s a very humbling experience to see and know that I’ve seen two sides of the spectrum- very good days of success to those days when you feel low and defeated from not getting the job. I look at everything as character-building and am grateful for every experience. I am currently getting into acting soon and even starting my own model workshop to help others who were like me: didn’t know where to start, who to trust, and how to find real work, a push in the right direction.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been easy or smooth – the biggest struggle for me personally was staying consistent even when hearing hey you’re too petite or you have a beautiful walk, but you’re very short, but you win some and you lose some, all lessons and experiences I am beyond grateful for.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a content creator, model, and micro-influencer. These are the 3 that take up most of my time. As a content creator, outside of running my own socials, I do UGC (user-generated content) creation. Brands send me products and create content for them to use for their sites or social pages. This can vary from a product demo video for TikTok to a product photo for their Instagram page. I model which I usually stick to petite modeling and fashion shows. As far my influencing experience goes, I basically work with brands that connect with me to help get them out there. I usually do this on my TikTok page; I’ve recently gotten to partner with more parenting/baby brands since I just had a baby boy last November, which has definitely added a new audience to my socials. I am proud of how far I’ve gotten, the name I created for myself, and the youth I get to inspire by being dedicated to my passions. I am a firm believer there’s only one you; anyone can have a dream and just that. I took my dream and chased it. To sit in the same position as yesterday and have worked hard repeatedly for it is very discouraging but that’s when you have to show dedication. I’m not where I want to be at all, but I’m in a good place, and it’s only up from here. To think outside of the box, my willingness to keep pushing forward, the passion I have for my craft is really seen in my work. With all that being said my abundance of faith makes me feel my future is sure; the places I am supposed to be are in reach.
What makes you happy?
My son I have always been a very motivated and hardworking person but becoming a mom made we go 10x as hard. Moms are literal superheroes, I’m convinced. I think waking up every day in good health and a roof over our heads is just the best feeling in the world. The love is unmatched, unconditional, and just feels like the biggest blessing.
