Today we’d like to introduce you to Tarynn Andrews.
Tarynn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into the beauty industry actually began with makeup. I loved helping people feel beautiful, but I quickly realized my true passion was skincare. I became fascinated by understanding the science of skin, uncovering the root cause of concerns, and helping people build lasting confidence through healthy skin rather than simply covering it up.
After becoming a licensed esthetician in 2013, I dedicated myself to continuing education and refining my approach. The more clients I treated, the more I realized that no two people have the same skin. That belief became the foundation of my philosophy: every treatment should be customized to the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all protocol.
In 2021, I took one of the biggest risks of my life and opened The Skin Therapist. It was during the uncertainty of COVID, and my husband had been out of work. Financially, it wasn’t the “right” time, but I believed so strongly in the vision I had for my business that I decided to take the leap anyway.
What started as a solo esthetics practice has grown into something much bigger than I ever imagined. Today, The Skin Therapist is not only home to my own practice, but also a collaborative space for other independent professionals, including estheticians, massage therapists, an acupuncturist, and a hairstylist. Creating a space where both clients and fellow entrepreneurs can thrive has become one of the most rewarding parts of my journey.
Beyond the treatment room, I also share skincare education through social media, where I love helping people better understand their skin and cut through the misinformation that exists online. Whether someone is sitting in my treatment room or learning from one of my videos, my mission is the same: to empower people with knowledge, create personalized solutions, and help them feel confident in their own skin.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I opened The Skin Therapist during the uncertainty of COVID, when my husband had been out of work and the future felt unpredictable. Financially, it probably wasn’t the “perfect” time to start a business, but I believed in the vision enough to take the leap anyway.
One of the biggest challenges wasn’t just opening during such an uncertain time, it was learning how to become a business owner. I went to school to become an esthetician, not an entrepreneur. I had no formal training in marketing, finances, leadership, or running a business, so much of what I’ve learned has come through experience, trial and error, and simply figuring things out as I went.
Looking back, I’m actually grateful for those challenges because they taught me resilience and adaptability. One of the greatest lessons entrepreneurship has given me is that there is almost always a solution. Running a business has strengthened my ability to problem-solve, trust myself, and keep moving forward even when I don’t have all the answers.
We’ve been impressed with The Skin Therapist, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Skin Therapist was built on the belief that no two people should receive the exact same facial. I specialize in customized skincare treatments that are thoughtfully tailored to the individual sitting in front of me. Rather than relying on set protocols, I evaluate each client’s skin, lifestyle, and goals to create a treatment plan that is uniquely theirs. That ability to adapt and customize is what I’m most proud of and what I believe has become my signature as an esthetician.
I also believe one of the things that sets me apart is the relationship I build with my clients. I truly listen to their concerns, make them feel heard, and always recommend what I believe is in their best interest, even if that means telling them “no” or encouraging them to take a different approach. Trust has always been more important to me than selling a product or service.
Over the years, I’m incredibly proud to have become a trusted resource for skincare in my community. Beyond my treatment room, I’ve grown a social media platform centered around skincare education because I believe everyone deserves access to accurate, approachable information. Whether someone books a facial with me or simply learns from one of my videos, my mission is the same: to help people better understand their skin and feel confident caring for it.
Today, The Skin Therapist is more than my own esthetics practice. It’s also home to a community of independent wellness professionals, including estheticians, massage therapists, an acupuncturist, and a hairstylist. Creating a space where both clients and fellow entrepreneurs can thrive is something I’m incredibly proud of, and it’s a vision I hope to continue growing for years to come.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
One of my favorite things about this area is that it truly feels like home. I’ve built not only a business here, but meaningful relationships with my clients and other local business owners. Watching people choose to support small businesses, recommend their favorite local spots, and celebrate each other’s successes is something I never take for granted.
If I had one wish, it would be to see even more people discover and support the incredible local businesses we have here. There is so much talent in our community, and I think shopping local has a ripple effect that benefits everyone.
