Meet Sue Palmisano of Bellaire Property Management and Vacation Rentals

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sue Palmisano.

Hi Sue, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My husband and I purchased our first vacation home 18 years ago with the idea of creating a place to share with our children. Moving from Grand Rapids, MI, I was drawn to Bellaire for its quieter pace of life. Shortly after relocating, I took on the role of Chamber Director of Bellaire, which allowed me to meet a lot of people in the area, while also renting out another cottage we owned seasonally. Over time, I discovered how much I enjoyed the management side of vacation rentals. That passion eventually led me to start my own company, which has grown from managing my single cottage to overseeing 28 properties today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning your own business is incredibly rewarding, but it certainly comes with challenges. One of the biggest is time—when I first started, I managed it part-time, but quickly realized that to be truly productive, I needed to commit to it full-time. Another challenge is building the right team, making sure personalities and work ethics align so everyone can work together effectively. And of course, there’s the ongoing process of learning as you go. Over time, I’ve been able to implement systems that make the business run more smoothly, but it’s definitely been a journey of growth and adjustment.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I currently manage 28 short-term rental properties in Bellaire, MI. Building strong relationships with property owners is key, and having an open, approachable personality really helps in starting that connection. My background in sales has been a big advantage in this business—it’s helped me not only in working with owners but also in finding reliable vendors to support them. I handle all aspects of management, including marketing the properties, communicating with potential renters, bookkeeping, and making sure each home stands out from the competition. I’m always researching and learning new strategies to help maximize bookings and deliver the best results for my clients.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I love the outdoors, nature. I have 2 horses that I board in a local stable and go trail riding with my friends who own horses as well. I have 2 dogs. I really love all types of animals.
