Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Wright.
Stephanie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have been working in mental health since 2008. My journey has evolved over time across different therapy environments, and I opened private practice on a small scale in 2017. In 2020, My husband and I were able to invest fully into The Wright Counseling, and since then we have grown into a team of 10. We now have two locations, here in Troy and also in Portage, Mi.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The world of Mental Health is challenging, so the road has ups and downs by design. But I am so grateful for being able to experience different levels of care, which has given me the tools and knowledge to be able to help a wide range of people. Our Vision is to meet people where they are and help them get to where they want to be. Therapy is a self-directed journey, and I am honored that I am invited into those journeys. The biggest struggle I would name is learning to stay on my own path while helping others. Learning boundaries, implementing self-care, and working towards getting to my desired work-life balance that is sustainable for me and my family has been challenging.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Wright Counseling was created as a space to foster compassionate, competent, and creative therapists to provide authentic, equal, respectful, and synergistic care to those who are ready. We encourage “Come as you are, leave when you’re ready” because that is the ultimate self-journey. We serve those who are open to change and willing to do the hard work. We serve families, children, adolescents, and adults and have clinicians that specialize in these different populations. Mental health needs we serve can vary, but we are focused highly on parenting and family systems, anxiety and depression, behavioral concerns for kids 8+, self-esteem, LGBTQ+ for teens, and life transitions for older adolescents and young adults. Adults are matched with clinicians that aim to address life patterns that have led to maladaptive coping skills that no longer serve you and how to live a values-based life.
We are not a one size fits all, but we aim to specifically match clients with someone who will help them serve their highest self.
My journey has not always been easy or a straight line. There have been many curves along the way. I am most proud of this path and the ability to create and grow this practice in a way that feels true to myself.
I am so proud of our team; of the dedication they inspire every day and the constant strive for growth.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The thing in life that matters most to me is engaging in healthy and meaningful relationships, growth and change, with myself and others. My family is the most amazing unit of humans, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
