Meet Stephanie Castro of The Tabla,MI

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Castro.

Stephanie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Like most individuals COVID changed a lot for me personally. I’ve worked in the medical field for over twenty years and it got a little rough during the pandemic. I was in my last year of prerequisites to enter nursing program during that time. That was put on hold and I started to question if that was something I really wanted to do anymore. I enjoy helping people but wanted to find I way to do that but in a more joyful way and not at their worst. When I was a young girl my aunt opened the first tortilla factory in West Michigan and one of the few Mexican stores (La Favorita) it was a family affair and I loved going their to help. The spark of owning my own business was ignited. In 2023 I took a road trip with my cousins and i made us all small charcuterie snack boxes, one one my cousins said you should sell these and start your own business. I really enjoy the social life style more so now that I’m basically an empty nester, so I figured why not now. I started the journey of starting The Tabla, Mi charcuterie catering business and I’ve enjoyed the process, I’ve learned so much from stepping out of my comfort zone.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some challenges I have found is mostly from my lack of a business back ground and trying to navigate through all the logistics. I have also struggled with finding financial funding for small business to actually start off, most want to see profits.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business consist of charcuterie catering which includes boards, grazing tables, a mobile cart. We offer a wide variety of gourmet cheeses,meats seasonal fruits and vegetables from mostly local businesses. We specialize in curating specific customized items adding anything from names, birthdays, company names etc.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Visiting my grandparents in Mexico.
