Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Lambert.
Hi Sierra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Bridge Community Café began as many different concepts for community spaces, collaboration, and healthy food and drinks being accessible to the community. Ideally, Bridge Community Café will ultimately become a worker-owned co-operative.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a young woman of color, many traditional start-up funding was not available at the time of opening Bridge Community Café. Many small business owners start with their retirement funds, family loans, or bank funding, none of which were available. Bridge would not be possible if it were not for the efforts of so many people in this community and outside of it who supported the space and vision long before doors were open or the menus were finished.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We source quality ingredients and create recipes for food and drinks that literally bring joy and happiness to people by incorporating various herbs, spices, ingredients, and practices. We serve small food items that aren’t found elsewhere, like vegan savory handpies, burritos with walnut “chorizo” and cashew crema, and varying baked goods like muffins, cookies, and cakes. Bridge is a special place, especially for its atmosphere and community-oriented environment, filled with bright colors, plants, and a variety of art from local creators and crafters. I am most proud of the space and the community environment it has cultivated, from the kids’ section and the way it sparks the imagination of so many to the regular customers who each have their favorite food and drinks, and mostly, the interactions that happen here.
