Meet Shumonte Cooper

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shumonte Cooper.

Hi Shumonte, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Our organization was founded in November 2018. We started after seeing the need and lack of support to underprivileged community, before, during, and after a disaster or humanitarian crisis. We have responded over 7 states not including Puerto Rico this year. Our organization aims to bring HOPE, Healing, and Relief to areas that have been damaged by Natural Disasters. We also serve those in need with our humanitarian assistance from the homeless population or those that may be dealing with a rough patch in life. One of our mottos are we are HERE to SERVE.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The Road has not been smooth sailing. We have had to deal with numerous things to include coordinating transportation for 1500 gallons of water to Houston Tx after the Ice storm, to Gathering resources to fly team members in to assist in disaster response.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our Work focuses on supporting disaster area citizens and emergency personnel to sustain, and improve the capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards. We bring light into dark areas and provide HOPE, Healing, and Relief.

One of Our proudest moments was being after to assist a young mother and child after her home was completely destroyed by a tornado and her child tossed down the streets and covered on a pile of debris. Thankful Her and her child were Unharmed!!! We were able to assist but providing food cards, debris cleanup, finding her child favorite blanket, and providing prayer support. She thanked us over 20 times and in that moment her Joy had returned, even though she lost her home and car she was able to see she stilled had Her life and her son’s life.

What sets us apart from other is we response within 24 hours after a disaster, but we go to the Underserved communities first. The community that isn’t insured, don’t have the nicer things and normally last to be assisted. Here We proved them with the best support that we are capable of providing.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Preparation should never be underestimated. Our team thankfully had a stock of over 3500 face mask and were able to assist nursing homes with them immediately. We also sent team members to OSHA to become workplace certified for covid response.
