Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Stokes.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got my first taste of masonry when I was sixteen, tagging along on side jobs with my stepfather. What started as a way to make a little extra money slowly became something more. By the time I turned eighteen and stepped into the construction world full‑time, I was determined to figure out where I belonged. I bounced from one role to another, learning the rhythm of different trades, until I finally landed on the one that felt right in my hands and in my gut—masonry. That’s where everything clicked.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been smooth. When the 2008 recession hit, the masonry company I had just poured my heart into collapsed under the weight of disappearing jobs and financial strain. It was a hard blow, the kind that makes you question everything.
But in 2018, I decided to take another swing at it. Starting over meant rebuilding my customer base from scratch and earning my reputation all over again. It wasn’t easy, but step by step, I carved out a name for myself once more.
As you know, we’re big fans of Masonry and More LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Masonry and More LLC, every project begins as a spark in someone’s imagination. We work in brick, stone, and mortar, but what we really build are the ideas our customers carry with them—an entryway they’ve pictured for years, a fireplace that feels like home, a repair that restores something they thought was lost.
What truly sets us apart isn’t just the range of masonry services we offer. It’s the pride we take in turning those quiet dreams into something solid enough to stand on, lean against, and live with for decades.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Striking out on your own rarely feels glamorous at the start. It’s slow, it’s exhausting, and some days it feels like the world has nothing but “no” to offer you. But buried somewhere in that long line of setbacks is the one “yes” that changes everything. And once you hear it, your journey finally begins to take shape
