Sarah and Lauren, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We’ve been friends since we met in three-year-old preschool. Growing up, we went to each other’s birthday parties, hosted tea parties together, and even rocked matching bangs and denim jumpers. Looking back, our childhood was really just a huge sign of what our adult lives would look like… still celebrating every birthday together, our tea parties have now changed to bachelorette parties, and our matching jumpers have escalated to matching blazer dresses.
It was during our time as each other’s maids of honor that we fell in love with party planning + all the little details that make celebrating a bride-to-be so special. After traveling for each of our bachelorette parties, we realized how much planning it takes to successfully execute the perfect bach.
We had always dreamed of starting a business together + this gave us the push to bring a bachelorette planning service to Michigan. And just like that, we launched MI Bachelorette in July 2022! Now, together we’ve decorated parties across the state + shipped our Bach Boxes to the largest bachelorette destinations across the country. We obsess over trending themes, design Insta-worthy photo ops, + customize the classic bachelorette essentials. Basically, we plan dream bachelorette parties the only way we know how – like it’s for our bestie!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We feel so lucky that our first year of business has exceeded all of our expectations and wildest dreams! Our biggest challenge has definitely been the behind-the-scenes work of owning our own company. We are both extreme type-A personalities, so the organization, creativity, marketing strategy + planning comes easily for us. However, accounting + operations have been a steep learning curve since neither of us have a business background. We have consistently prioritized building these skills as we grow + seeking professionals that are experienced in these areas. This past year has proven to us that you don’t have to be an expert in all things business to have a successful business!

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
We started this business because we love to create once-in-a-lifetime moments and exciting memories for our best friends and now clients! We feel most successful when we’re able to bring a bride’s dream bachelorette weekend to life and continue to feel inspired when we can share our creativity with others – in person and on social media!
