Meet Sarah Kinsler-Holloway of Kin Aesthetics and Kin Professional

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Kinsler-Holloway.

Hi Sarah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I work in the beauty industry in several different capacities. I am the founder of Kin Aesthetics, a skincare studio founded on Korean rituals and skincare philosophies, and co-founder of Kin Professional, an esthetic supply company.

I work in the treatment room, but I’ve been able to scale my business to take on other passions, such as building Kin Professional and coaching other estheticians looking to go solo.

My business didn’t start like this though, and my story is a little unconventional.

In 2010 I spent time in South Korea finishing my Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, only to return to the states realizing I wanted to become an esthetician.

I made it through an esthetician apprenticeship and worked at a local spa for a couple of years before I realized I wanted to open my own skincare studio.

Due to a non-compete, I had to open my business in a new city. I established a successful skincare business from scratch. Zero clients, zero connections, and close-to-zero plans. Then COVID happened, my business was shut down for three months, and in an effort to pivot Kin Professional was born.

I currently work in the treatment room a few days a week. I specialize in Korean treatments that converge advanced skincare technology with ancient modalities. Kin Aesthetics is also a Face Reality Certified acne clinic.

When I’m not helping my clients achieve their skincare goals, you’ll find me sourcing new products, taking continuing education, and doing one-on-one coaching with estheticians.

I am dedicated to elevating the beauty industry both by fostering environments where clients learn to love their skin and estheticians feel comfortable growing within their industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to where I am now has been challenging, but each obstacle has been an important lesson.

As I mentioned, I previously signed a non-compete which really hindered my options of where I could work and what I could do upon leaving.

However, I was patient and resourceful and found an affordable space to rent. Next came the hard work, which was growing my clientele.

I really hustled back then. I connected with other local businesses, I went above and beyond when a new client booked, and I often worked hours I was technically closed.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Both Kin Aesthetics and Kin Professional are centered around Korean skincare. South Korea is so far ahead in terms of skincare ingredients and technology, and it’s very exciting to make it available to both my clients and fellow estheticians. I often refer to Korean facials as a facial from the future.

In general, we are known for innovative treatments that are unique and not yet mainstream. Our most popular treatments are the Holistic Korean Facial which focuses on the skin’s needs in the moment, and our V-Line Face Lift treatment, which is non-invasive and results are seen immediately!

We offer a holistic perspective, taking diet and lifestyle into consideration when working with the skin since they are deeply interconnected.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
There is so much I love about Ann Arbor. The summers, the beautiful parks, and of course the people and how fiercely they support small businesses.

There’s not much to dislike about Ann Arbor, but if I had to mention one thing, it’s definitely winter.
