Meet Sahil Mehta of Sugar Events and Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sahil Mehta. 

Hi Sahil, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2013, I started DJing for my own fraternity at Rutgers University in New Jersey to just save our organization some money instead of hiring someone. It all began using an Aux for my iPod & iTunes library. At the time, it wasn’t anything special, but it laid the foundation for what could have been. 

After moving back to Michigan, I saw an opportunity to channel my passion for DJing into something more. That’s when the concept of Sugar Events was born. We started by organizing and DJing for small events like graduation parties and baby showers, bringing our signature touch to create memorable experiences. However, we always had our sights set on growing and expanding into the wedding and corporate event industry. 

With each event, we focused on delivering exceptional service, going above and beyond to ensure client satisfaction. As our reputation grew, we received requests to DJ and coordinate events in Cancun, Cabo, and other stunning destinations. We embraced these opportunities, bringing our unique style and expertise to create unforgettable moments in those beautiful locations. 

Our dedication and commitment to excellence led us to collaborate with prominent organizations. We had the privilege of DJing and coordinating events for the Detroit City Football Club, creating an electric atmosphere for their fans. We also provided our services for 7-Eleven corporate events, Accenture, Beaumont, and Ernst & Young, leaving a lasting impression with our coordination and music. 

As Sugar Events continues to grow, we organize and execute 100-150 events annually throughout the Midwest. Our team, now consisting of over 20 passionate individuals, works collaboratively to curate extraordinary moments. We remain humble, grounded, and focused on our core mission of creating unforgettable experiences for our clients. 

Our journey is a testament to the power of passion, hard work, and staying true to ourselves. We are grateful for the support we’ve received and excited for the future of Sugar Events. With each event, we aim to surpass expectations, leaving a lasting imprint of joy and magic and truly “Creating the Sweetest Memories”. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
We faced budget constraints from our initial demographic, compelling us to lower prices or face limited bookings. Breaking into the competitive wedding market was challenging due to established vendors and reluctance to choose a “new” DJ. Price points and opportunities were ongoing battles requiring a delicate balance. To stay competitive, saying yes became the norm, even if it meant going the extra mile and providing additional services without being able to charge for them. Then, COVID-19 hit, rocking the wedding industry. With very few events and limited guest counts, uncertainty loomed over when we could return to standard rates. Everyone in the industry was gasping for air. 

However, with the unwavering support of our family, we persevered, finding innovative ways to adapt and serve our clients. These struggles shaped us into a resilient and dedicated company, creating the Sugar Standard that our team continuously abides by at all our events.
