Hi Rikilee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Get Lucky Photography (GLP) was born from a lifelong passion for capturing moments.

As a child, I loved staging photo shoots with my stuffed animals, treating them as if they were live models. This playful creativity evolved over time, leading me to photograph friends, animals, and anything that caught my eye.

During a particularly challenging period, I received a beautiful camera as a gift, intended to rekindle my love for photography and bring some light back into my world. Little did I know that this thoughtful gesture would spark the creation of GLP, transforming it into the vibrant business it is today.

GLP has illuminated my life in ways I never imagined, allowing me to forge meaningful connections with families, couples, and fellow creatives. This journey has not only enhanced my skills as a photographer but also fostered significant personal growth.

Through GLP, I’ve found more light and inspiration than I ever thought possible.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
All journeys have roads that curve, bump, and bring new things to learn from.

To me, the most important thing is to learn how to lean into the curve, much like another love of mine—riding motorcycles. Initially, the curves and bumps seem terrifying, but with time, you learn to lean in and grow to love those challenges.

Throughout our years in business, we’ve encountered numerous situations that required fresh perspectives and creative problem-solving. Undoubtedly, the future will present even more challenges. The key is to keep going, riding those curves, and embracing the learning process.

It’s easy to forget, but at one point, you were dreaming of being where you are now. So, let’s continue to lean into the curves, face the bumps with confidence, and cherish the journey.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a portrait and wedding photographer passionate about capturing the complexities, emotions, and various seasons of life. Photography is a true form of time travel—my dream superpower. We evolve and change every day, and being able to document these memories and growth is a treasure to share.

What I cherish most and am most proud of are the connections I’ve made and continue to make. Seeing the families I’ve had the honor to photograph multiple times blossom over the years is an incredible gift.

This experience is truly fulfilling, though I’m unsure if it sets me apart. I believe every creative brings something unique to their craft, and it’s this diversity that makes each of us special.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I was fortunate to cross paths with another creative in the industry while I was still new to the business. Our connection was almost instant, and she has significantly contributed to my growth, continuing to inspire and guide me. I am incredibly grateful that the universe brought us together. There have been many others I’ve looked up to and learned from, and I am thankful for their influence as well.

A lot of what has worked for me is simply being myself and approaching each day with a mindset focused on expanding my knowledge, bringing positive energy, and being honest with myself and those around me. When I encounter someone I admire, I express the inspiration they bring to my life. Being around others offers invaluable learning opportunities.

Mentorships with favorite creatives, taking their courses, and engaging with them are incredibly valuable. My advice is to be vulnerable, step out of your comfort zone, and ask if you can second shoot, participate in a mentorship, or simply buy them coffee. We’re all out here chasing dreams, and supporting each other makes the journey even more rewarding.
