Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Morrow.
Hi Rebecca, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I suppose the story of how I became the owner of Tammy’s Tastings started when I was working behind the bar at an upscale Italian restaurant. We mainly served wine but had a well stocked bar filled with curiosities like the bottle of blackberry liqueur I noticed was collecting dust on the shelf. This bottle was the first one to get my cocktail researching gears in motion. The next week I had a Bramble feature I was offering to guests while excitedly explaining everything I learned about the cocktail’s history and it’s ingredients. Unbeknownst to me this time in cocktail history is now considered the modern cocktail renaissance, and I had boots on the ground.
Fast forward a few years later I had a solid start on my cocktail book collection and acquired knowledge. I sought out others of like-mindedness finding myself joining the Greater Detroit Chapter of the USBG. The USBG is professional organization for bartenders that focuses on education, community, and professional development within the bartending and hospitality industry. Within this organization I expanded my knowledge more and even got the opportunity to compete in several cocktail competitions, including The Most Imaginative Bartender. While serving as the Chapter’s Secretary I met a Cocktail Enthusiast by the name of Tammy Coxen at one of our mixers.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had to learn coming from a hospitality background training other bartenders and servers cocktails is quite different than teaching the public to create better quality cocktails at home. So I would say the main challenge over my years at Tammy’s Tastings would be adjusting my teaching methods and ingredient preparations to make them more simplified and approachable for those that may not have any experience drinking or making drinks.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Tammy’s Tastings?
Tammy’s Tastings was founded in 2006 by Tammy Coxen to help people learn about food and drink in a delicious, entertaining and slightly educational way. Offering regularly scheduled online & in-person cocktail classes as well as corporate and private events. In 2017 I came on board to help Tammy with her events while still maintaining my role at restaurants as a bartender, manager, and trainer. In early 2020 I stepped away from the restaurants to focus on expanding my family, running my at home bakery, and helping Tammy.
After nearly 20 years Tammy has decided to step away from her role as owner as Tammy’s Tastings leaving me as her successor. I am so grateful for this opportunity and for all the knowledge that Tammy has given me over the years. Starting this October 2025 I will be the owner and manager moving forward with our Founder, Tammy, leading our online portfolio. I am looking forward to sharing all my knowledge with you in-person at one of our public events, or a private event curated just for you!
