Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Martin
Hi Olivia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began taking interest into doing Nails during my senior year of high school. Once I graduated, I then decided I would go to Western Michigan University and pursue a degree in business. But my passion for nails never died. I would do my friend’s nails in my dorm room to make some extra money sometimes. One day I got a message on my way back to school about completing an apprenticeship so I decided to go for it. I then ended up transferring back home to LCC to finish my prerequisites for free due to graduating from Everett high school with my Lansing Promise scholarship. While completing my prerequisites I was working on my apprenticeship. Once I finished my apprenticeship in August 2023, that October I got my first Suite and have loved meeting new people and making them feel great about themselves. If it weren’t for my family, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today. Their love and support is what got me through a lot of days. One of the things that really motivated me was watching my dad start up and run his own successful lawn care business Based in the Lansing Michigan area (Your Maintenance Free Lawn Services LLC). Watching him, overcome adversity and different struggles let me know that I could do it myself as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest struggles is other people wanting to be in competition, but really we can all win in this industry. There are enough clients to go around and you can always learn from someone else and grow.
When I see someone better than me, it makes me look up to them. It makes me want to go harder to learn how to be better. I wish other people would look at someone being better than them or having more followers than them the same way as a learning experience. People in the beauty industry, never have to be in competition or be jealous with one another because there’s always room to grow and improve your craft.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in acrylic nails & toes, toe reconstructions, manicures, Pedicures, Structured manicures.
I’m known for growing healthy natural nails and great retention. I recommend 3-4 weeks for fills, but my clients can go at least four weeks before needing a fill & there nails will still look good. As well as neat clean creative work. I love doing different nail art and designs as well!
How do you define success?
I define success as accomplishing the goals you set for yourself. Your goals won’t be the same as everyone else’s goals because everyone is at a different stage in life. To be successful to me means to be happy doing what you love to do.
There are many people that are the book definition of successful, but are you really successful if you hate what you do every day?
