Today we’d like to introduce you to Nika Jusufi.
Hi Nika, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Nika Jusufi, founder and CEO of Detroit-based real estate firm Nika & Co., is as passionate about what she does as she is about the city in which she works and lives. Nika launched her brokerage in early March 2020, with little idea—like everyone else—of what was to come. As a global pandemic set in, holding the Motor City in its grip, Nika continued to meet clients virtually, motivate her team, and develop her streamlined business model, complete with listings of stunning historic homes and a hugely chic website. Undaunted, she pressed on in an environment that saw many businesspeople shutting down or at least putting things on hold.
By year’s end, Nika Jusufi was ranked the #1 agent in residential home sales volume in the city of Detroit; After five years in business, the boutique brokerage is on track to hit $150 million in residential sales.
Nika attributes a portion of her success to a more measured approach. “I’m careful about scaling up internally,” says the 38-year-old entrepreneur about bringing on new people. “I’m not on a fast track to hire multiple agents, it’s the quality of the people I add to the firm, not the quantity. It’s important to me that the values my associates bring are aligned with the values and passion we embody at Nika & Co.,” she remarks. The company consists of only three full-time licensed agents–Nika being one–with many others operating behind the scenes, including contractors, marketing and social media managers, photographers, and videographers. “My role isn’t just being a real estate broker, I’m also there to coach agents and guide them to build their business.” she says.
The firm brings a deep knowledge of the historic homes found in Detroit, along with knowing how to navigate the nuances that come with them. “The character and unique detail of these homes can’t be replicated,” says Nika. “People who buy an older residence will be stewards of the house.” Each of Nika & Co.’s agents live in the city as well, so they know how to talk to buyers about the neighborhoods. “We understand the stock we have here and the possibilities this city holds.”
Nika resides in a Historic home in Boston-Edison Detroit with her Husband and Son.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In the beginning of my real estate career 10 years ago, it was certainly challenging. There was significant financial struggle, I questioned everything, struggled financially… but the tough times really made me realize how much I needed to make this work, I identified my WHY, my purpose and worked long days and long nights. The failure I experienced, built character & resilience. Then it all came together. I was closing deals, I became busier than ever, people trusted me and chose to work with me. Then I realized I had the itch to do something more, make a bigger impact. I decided to launch my own brokerage in the city in 2020. I launched my company in January of 2020 – it was one of the best decisions I made- even when the pandemic happened, which was a challenge in itself, I stuck through it and worked closely with my team and we’ve consistently grown each year.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m first generation American, my parents are European Immigrants that came to America with little education and broken english in search of a better life. They were incredibly hard working and I gain my work ethic from them!
