Meet Nedith Farias

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nedith Farias.

Nedith, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello. My name is Nedith Farias; I have a Bachelor of arts degree in Graphic Design that studied in Mexico, but currently working on my own photography company.

I was born in Grand Rapids and raised in Mexico, and I moved to the United States 4 years ago. All this time I have been experiencing a culture shock; even right now, I feel like I’m still in the adjustment stage. The most challenging part is learning the language because I keep making mistakes, and I’ve been struggling to figure out which words to use to express myself correctly. But I just can keep going and doing my best.

During the pandemic, my job at that time sent me to lay off. So, I had a lot of free time. That’s how I started doing self-portraits and taking online courses on editing, and I discovered that it was something that I loved to do.

Little by little, everything returned to normal, and I returned to work in the pizza place. Although it was a good job, I did not feel entirely happy. I wanted to do what I liked and for which I had studied something related to Art and graphic design.

It was until 2021 my husband, Alan Pedraza, and I decided to start taking pictures, but we did not know many people in the city; we went to the Hispanic Center of West Michigan, and when they saw our work, they offered us to design some brochures and take pictures for them. That’s how we began to meet people, make friends and get closer to the Latino community in Grand Rapids, who were the first to allow us to work in the field we like.

But it was not until this year 2023, that we decided to open our small business, after having taken some classes in marketing, business, and accounting, among others, and that is how we started our small company called Nedith Faro Art & Photography LLC, where we are focusing in two specialties maternity photography and corporate event photography.

Even today, I still have a full-time job as a decorator in a Screen-Printing place, but I know that one day my company will give my husband and me the resources to be our full-time job.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The path has not been easy, starting with understanding how the system in this country works. Also, the fact of not knowing how to speak English has limited me in the communication of how to reach my ideal clients and even in day-to-day communication with people.

The processes to start a new business are different from the ones I knew in my country; it is as if I had to learn everything all over again, but thank God I have met many people who have helped me along the way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In today’s digital age, photography has become an accessible medium for people to express their creativity and capture the beauty of the world around them. For me, photography is not just a hobby; it’s a passion that allows me to explore my artistic side, tell stories, and freeze precious moments in time. But what truly makes this journey fulfilling is the process of editing, where I can bring my vision to life and enhance the captured images.

With modern digital tools and software, there are countless ways to experiment and push the boundaries of creativity. From subtle adjustments to dramatic transformations, every edit becomes a chance to explore new techniques and refine my skills. I am constantly learning and evolving, seeking inspiration from fellow photographers and embracing new trends to refine my craft.

Editing is an integral part of the photographic process, allowing me to transform a raw image into a work of art. It’s where I can unleash my creativity, experiment with different styles, and enhance the visual impact of the photograph. Through editing, I can adjust colors, contrast, and composition to bring out the true essence of the scene I captured. It gives me the opportunity to add a personal touch, shaping the final image to match my original vision.

Photography and editing allow me to blend my love for art, storytelling, and capturing the beauty of the world. Through my lens and editing tools, I can freeze moments, express emotions, and create images that resonate with others. This ever-evolving journey has no limits, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next.

Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Working with me, collaborating with me, or supporting my photography business can take various forms. From hiring me for photography services to engaging with my social media content or referring potential clients, every contribution helps me grow and thrive as a professional photographer.

I am always open to collaborating with other photographers, models, stylists, and artists on creative projects. Whether it’s a themed photo shoot, a conceptual series, or a collaborative exhibition, working together can lead to unique and exciting outcomes.
