Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie.
Hi Natalie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My love for interior design started early—when I was about nine, I’d buy design books from the bargain rack and spend hours marking my favorite pages with colorful sticky notes. That curiosity turned into a real passion over the years, especially after my family lived in Italy for two years. Being surrounded by such a different lifestyle and architecture totally opened my eyes and sparked a lifelong love for Europe and travel. I even went back to Italy in high school and continued exploring different countries after getting married—each place left its mark on me through its colors, textures, and overall vibe. I also spent countless afternoons with my grandmother, a local artist, who showed me that great design is about more than just how things look—it’s about honoring the past and creating thoughtful, meaningful spaces. Now, every project is a chance to collaborate with my clients, combining my eye for detail with their style and vision to create something beautiful that truly feels like home.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Design has always been a dream of mine, even though I wasn’t sure if I could actually pursue it. I earned my degree in Business Marketing with the hope that one day I’d have my own design firm. After college, I became a stay-at-home mom with our two boys. My husband always supported my passion for design and encouraged me to go for it. My plan was to start once both boys were in school full-time—but putting yourself out there is hard and honestly a little scary. The year I turned 30, I realized how quickly time was flying, and I decided it was now or never. That’s the year I officially launched my design firm, and it’s been growing ever since. Running a business while raising kids isn’t always easy, but both are such huge parts of who I am. Even on the wildest days, I’ve truly loved the journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Natalie Nave Interiors is a full-service interior design studio that helps clients create beautiful, functional, and meaningful spaces. We offer a personalized design experience—working closely with you from the initial concept all the way through to the final installation. Whether you’re furnishing a single room, remodeling a space, or designing an entire home, we handle everything from space planning and material selection to sourcing furniture, finishes, and custom details.
Our approach blends timeless design with practical solutions, ensuring each space not only looks great but works for the way you live. We value authenticity, functionality, and sustainability—designing homes that reflect your style, support your everyday life, and feel truly your own.
What sets me apart from other designers is my deep love for incorporating antiques into every project. I truly believe that no home is complete without a piece of history—something with age, character, and charm that tells a story. I’m always on the hunt for treasures, and I love mixing those one-of-a-kind finds with fresh, timeless design.
My travels, especially throughout Europe, also play a big role in shaping my style. The architecture, colors, and textures I’ve experienced abroad continue to inspire my work and bring a unique depth to each space I design. It’s that blend of old-world charm and thoughtful, livable design that makes my approach truly personal and distinctive.
I believe a well-designed home isn’t about impressing others—it’s about creating a space where you can truly be yourself. I’m not big on following trends or trying to fit clients into a specific style box. Instead, I focus on designing homes that reflect how you live and what feels right for you.
I love blending different styles to create something timeless, personal, and cohesive. My goal is always to design spaces that feel collected, lived-in, and built to last—not just stylish for a couple of years, but beautiful for many seasons of life.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I’ve always loved the historic charm of Kalamazoo—the old neighborhoods lined with trees, the brick roads, and the character you just don’t find in newer homes. My own home was built in 1930, and there’s something truly magical about living in a space that’s nearly 100 years old. I’m drawn to the stories these homes hold and the timeless details that make them so special. That sense of history and character is something I try to carry into every project I work on.
