Meet Nadia Jazelle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Jazelle.

Hi Nadia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey towards becoming a model began during my freshman year at Michigan State University when I participated in the Alpha Fashion Show. The audition process was tough, and the other models were quite harsh at first. All I wanted to do was learn, but the competition was fierce. Thankfully, my best friend, Myeasha Perry, encouraged me to stay the course. Despite the challenges, I persevered and gained valuable skills along the way, such as doing my hair and makeup, researching and studying different types of modeling, and finding and organizing my own gigs. This journey has not only helped me grow as a model but also develop my self-confidence and self-love. 

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My career journey as a model has been full of ups and downs, but each experience has taught me something valuable. At times, the road was so rough that I couldn’t see any growth. I didn’t have any advantages over others, nor did I have proper training. Instead, I learned through trial and error, facing every challenge head-on. I couldn’t afford to splurge on new hairstyles or trendy clothing, so I learned to do it myself and even partnered with local designers. This skill has come in handy as I now utilize it for lead generation to find paid gigs. I’ve also learned the art of planning ahead and styling myself with my own clothes. Doing my own makeup has saved me money and time, allowing me to avoid booking appointments constantly. Through this journey, I’ve realized that my lack of resources is not a limitation but rather an opportunity to learn and grow. 

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a full-time model from Detroit, MI, I’ve had an exciting journey so far, and it all started from my roots in art. Over time, I’ve expanded my skills and ventured into different sectors of modeling, including bridal, commercial work, lifestyle, avant-garde, brand ambassador, and promo modeling. But what sets me apart is my passion for uplifting and encouraging fellow creatives. I see modeling as an art form that allows me to express myself and create powerful statements that inspire others. I’m incredibly proud of my accomplishments and look forward to growing, developing, and inspiring those around me. 

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
During my journey to become a model, my faith has been my greatest source of strength. Whenever I felt like giving up, I would pray and seek support to help me overcome my stress and fears. Over time, I have met more people who have provided me with invaluable guidance and support. Among my earliest supporters were my sister, my best friends, my mom, and my best friend’s mom. My sister believed in me even before I saw myself as beautiful. Despite my insecurities about being tall, she once told me that I could either become a model or a basketball player. My best friends helped me prepare for my first fashion show and have been with me through all my major life decisions, learning and growing alongside me. My best friend’s mom, a full-time creative with a passion for modeling, has always motivated me to push myself further and provided me with valuable tips and guidance. My mom has helped me stay disciplined and grounded as I continue to expand my career. Although I initially faced resistance from those who didn’t understand my passion for modeling, I have since received an outpouring of support that has been a true blessing.
