Today we’d like to introduce you to Motorcity ERA.
Hi Motorcity, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
What up doe! I am Motorcity ERA! The name represents both my hometown and the different eras of my life that continue to shape my music. Detroit has produced some of the greatest artists in the world, and growing up surrounded by that legacy inspired me to create something honest that could carry the city’s spirit forward in my own way. My journey as Motorcity ERA began after my cousin introduced me to a recording studio when we were like 13. It was dope to see how everything was flowing. The sounds were so loud, it felt like one of those awakening moments. The day after my cousin gave me an old dell computer with fl studio on it, encouraging me to simply create. I was so trash starting off, we won’t talk about that lol but within that first month I figured it out. I started by making beats and writing songs for other artists before realizing I had my own story to tell. Although I was comfortable behind the scenes, which some of my friends where trying to tell me to step up a lot sooner. That shifted when I felt God calling me to step forward and use my voice to create music with purpose and substance that could help someone else.
Over time, that passion for music grew into a passion for storytelling through filmmaking, cinematography, and scoring. Today, every project I create, whether it’s a song, a film, or a documentary, is centered on authenticity, emotion, and connection. Life has shaped both my perspective and my artistry, and my goal isn’t to chase trends or numbers, it’s to create work that helps people feel seen, reflect, and find hope.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
What road is ever smooth? I’m from a city that has seen more potholes the paved roads. They’re bumps we can brace for, but ultimately we gotta keep it rolling if we trying to get to our destination Even the ones born into money can have challenging times. I think on my own struggles and its only from the things that I believe wouldn’t change from anyone else’s response to this question. Money and People. Neither stays the same and we can’t expect change back. Just a tip! (bars lol)
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The thing I love most about my work is that I get to connect with so many amazing people. Being a producer & video editor, I get to help bring the image that was just a thought or vision to life. Everyone can say the same thing with that one too but theres a difference in the way I go about it. I move with intention! I believe I was placed on this planet to help others, I believe just doing that alone will open up so many doors that are meant for you personally, that goes for you mental as well and thats the place you’ll find your community. Not to where you’re people pleasing or moving with motive, its that gray area right in between. I think everyone that I’ve encountered while doing either of those things would tell you the same about me. Outside of my kids and my love, some of my proudest moments live in that selflessness.

One of the books that I’m reading now and one thats on my list Romal Tunes “I Wish my Dad” and Kevin Fredericks “Successful Failure: Lessons Learned Flat on My Face”. and then for podcasts I have the Crash Dummies Podcast.
