Today we’d like to introduce you to Momodu Sheriff Jr.

Momodu Sheriff Jr

Hi Momodu, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
This is will be a brief story of how I was able to merge both my passions and hobbies into productive avenue in my life.

Out of high school, I’ve decided to that I wanted to be an engineer because I love designing and craftying things, but college mainly taught the automotive side of engineering, which I couldn’t stand. Skip to me finding creative outlets from engineering classes; I decided to pick back up two hobbies that my older brother showed me early in my life Videography, which turned more into a love of photography and DJing.

Where I am at today is an Intern at CTI in Grand Rapid, A Wedding DJ, Graduation Photographer, and manager of Caged Lotus

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was never a smooth road to figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. I went through trails like wondering if going to school was the right path? Is being a DJ ever gonna be helpful in my engineering field? Is photography worth my time? Each one of these questions was answered the more I put myself out of my conform zone.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Caged Lotus is a collective group of artist in music, photography, film, etc., based in Kalamazoo with a goal in mind to uplift the music scene in Kalamazoo. Caged Lotus mission was to put spotlight on artists and being a helping hand in any way we can. What I do in Caged Lotus is be the DJ and Manager along with being the audio technician and event coordinator for house shows and festivals. What sets me apart from others in the music scene, which I’ve noticed in my opinion, is my technical background through my engineering degree and my love of A.V., that I’m able to help people have performances. For me personally, I’m most proud of how Caged Lotus puts other people on.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
In Kalamazoo, I like how there’s opportunities in almost anything you want to do in life; it’s a great launch pad. Without sounding too dark, I dislike the people that never jumped on the opportunities in Kalamazoo and settled for mediocracy.
