Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Powers.
Hi Mark, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My career has always been rooted in transformation. Early on, I worked inside businesses that were spending money on marketing but not seeing results. Campaigns were disconnected from revenue, teams were busy but not productive, and growth felt unpredictable. I saw the same pattern again and again, activity without alignment.
That experience shaped my approach. I knew companies didn’t just need more campaigns or content; they needed leadership, structure, and a clear strategy that tied everything back to business outcomes. That insight became the foundation for Michigan CMO, and later Florida CMO.
As a Fractional CMO, I step into organizations to provide exactly that, alignment between marketing and revenue. I built The Marketing Engine Room™ and Engine Room Method™ as frameworks to stop random acts of marketing and replace them with intentional, measurable growth systems.
Today, I partner with growth-minded companies across industries to create clarity, focus, and results. At the heart of it, my story is about transformation, taking businesses from scattered and uncertain to structured and scalable.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, either personally or professionally.
One of the biggest challenges in my career has been breaking through the noise of the marketing world. There are countless agencies, consultants, and freelancers who promise quick wins, and I often stepped into companies that had already been burned. They had spent money, launched campaigns, and seen little to no return. That lack of trust was an obstacle I had to overcome.
Another struggle was balance. Building Michigan CMO and later Florida CMO meant wearing multiple hats. I had to be strategist, operator, salesperson, and leader while also committing to my own personal growth. There were moments when I questioned whether I was moving fast enough or if I had built the right model to scale.
Those struggles shaped my approach. They forced me to create systems rather than just strategies. They taught me that growth does not come from random acts of marketing but from alignment, clarity, and consistent execution.
The road has not been smooth, but every challenge has reinforced my belief that transformation is possible for me and for the clients I serve.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Michigan CMO and Florida CMO exist to solve a problem I see all the time: companies are spending money on marketing, but those efforts are not tied back to revenue. The result is wasted resources, frustration, and inconsistent growth.
What I do as a Fractional CMO is step into organizations at the leadership level. I work directly with business owners and leadership teams to align marketing with business goals, create the strategy and playbook, and then lead the marketing function so their in-house or outsourced resources are focused and accountable.
I specialize in building marketing systems that create clarity, structure, and measurable results. My proprietary frameworks, The Marketing Engine Room™ and the Engine Room Method™, are designed to stop random acts of marketing and replace them with intentional, revenue-driven systems. That is what sets me apart — I am not a consultant or an agency. I embed as part of the leadership team, making sure every dollar and every campaign is connected to growth.
What I am most proud of brand wise is the trust we build. Clients often come to me after trying multiple agencies or strategies without results. Being able to turn that frustration into clarity and measurable growth is the foundation of Michigan CMO and Florida CMO.
What I want readers to know is simple: marketing should not be an expense. It should be a growth engine. That is what my brand stands for and what every engagement is built to deliver.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Marketing is in the middle of a major shift, and the next five to ten years will accelerate it even further.
The first major change is how artificial intelligence is reshaping execution. AI is already handling tasks like content creation, reporting, and campaign optimization. The companies that win will be the ones that use AI to enhance strategy and decision-making rather than just generating more activity. Strategy will matter more than ever.
Another change is accountability. For too long, marketing has been measured by vanity metrics such as impressions and clicks. That era is ending. Every marketing dollar will need to be tied to revenue and measurable outcomes. Businesses that cannot prove ROI will not survive.
We are also seeing a growing demand for leadership over outsourcing. Companies are realizing that agencies and freelancers can execute, but without senior-level direction, execution often runs in circles. This is why the fractional model is growing so quickly. It allows companies to access experienced leadership without the overhead of a full-time executive.
This is also why I am creating CMO Academy. The next generation of fractional CMOs needs training, frameworks, and mentorship to deliver measurable outcomes. CMO Academy prepares leaders to step into organizations, align marketing with revenue, and bring structure to teams that are ready to scale.
The future of marketing is intentional. It will not be about running ads or posting content for the sake of staying busy. It will be about building systems, understanding customer psychology, and scaling with precision. This is exactly where Michigan CMO, Florida CMO, and CMO Academy are positioned to lead.
