Today we’d like to introduce you to Marco Bertoldi.
Hi marco, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a hairstylist since 2007, and from the very beginning I was drawn to the combination of creativity, technical skill, and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with people. Over the years, I’ve worked with a wide range of clients in both Michigan and Los Angeles, continued my education, had the opportunity to educate other stylists, and worked backstage at New York Fashion Week. Every stage of my career has taught me something new, not just about hair, but about business, leadership, and creating exceptional experiences.
As I gained experience, I became increasingly interested in the bigger picture of the salon industry. I started asking how I could create an environment that better supported both clients and the professionals working within it. That vision eventually led me to create FORM Salon, a modern space designed around community, elevated service, and giving independent stylists the tools and environment to do their best work.
Looking back, my career has been a gradual evolution from simply doing hair to building something with a lasting impact. I’m still passionate about working behind the chair, but I’m equally excited about creating opportunities for other beauty professionals and continuing to raise the standard for what a salon experience can be.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s true for anyone building a long-term career. The beauty industry is constantly evolving, so I’ve always had to stay curious, continue learning, and adapt to new techniques, trends, and client expectations.
One of the biggest challenges has been stepping outside my comfort zone. Building a business requires a completely different skill set than being a great hairstylist. I’ve had to learn about leadership, marketing, finance, hiring, and operations, often through trial and error. There have been setbacks and moments where things didn’t go as planned, but each one taught me something valuable.
More recently, creating FORM Salon has been both the most exciting and the most challenging chapter of my career. Bringing a vision to life means making hundreds of decisions, solving unexpected problems, and staying committed even when the process is difficult. Looking back, those challenges have made me a better professional and a better leader, and they’ve reinforced the importance of resilience and continuous growth.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a hairstylist and salon owner with nearly two decades of experience, specializing in creating healthy, beautiful, low maintenance hair that fits each client’s lifestyle. While I offer a wide range of services, I’m especially passionate about dimensional color, precision cutting, and hair extensions. My goal has always been to create hair that looks just as good weeks later as it did the day my client left the salon.
What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built with my clients over the years. Many have been with me for a long time, and I don’t take that loyalty for granted. I believe it’s about more than great hair. It’s about making people feel heard, understood, and confident when they leave my chair.
I think what sets me apart is that I’m always looking beyond what’s expected. Whether it’s continuing my education, working backstage at New York Fashion Week, educating other stylists, or now building FORM Salon, I’ve always believed that excellence comes from never becoming complacent. I’m passionate about elevating not just the technical side of our industry, but the entire client experience. Every detail matters, from the consultation and craftsmanship to the environment people walk into. That’s what continues to inspire me and what I hope people remember after working with me.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was actually unbearably shy. Most people who know me now are surprised to hear that because I’m the complete opposite today. Looking back, I think that shyness taught me how to observe, listen, and really pay attention to people, qualities that have become some of my greatest strengths.
I’ve always been creative and curious, and I loved figuring out how things worked and how they could be improved. Over time, the beauty industry gave me the confidence to come out of my shell. Every client conversation, every class I taught, and every opportunity I took pushed me a little further outside my comfort zone.
Today, I’m incredibly outgoing, and I genuinely love connecting with people. It’s one of my favorite parts of what I do. Building relationships, making people feel comfortable, and helping them feel confident has become just as rewarding as the creative side of doing hair.
Looking back, I think I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset. I enjoy creating, improving, and thinking about the bigger picture. Those same qualities are what inspired me to build FORM Salon, a space that’s intentionally designed to elevate the experience for both clients and beauty professionals.
