Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Morrison.
Hi Maggie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my dog walking journey in the summer of 2019. I heard of an app that connected you with clients, so I thought I would try it out as a temporary summer job. Within a few months, I realized dog walking (and drop-ins and sittings) was something I really enjoyed doing and wanted to pursue more long-term. After about a year, I decided to get off the app and start my own business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not! The first major hurdle was covid. Just as my business was picking up (about 6 months in), was when Michigan shut down, and I was not able to walk dogs for a couple months. Even after the stay-at-home order was lifted, I lost a lot of clients because many switched to working from home. It has taken some time, but business has picked back up. Other struggles have popped up due to the nature of the business, from having to break up a dog fight to being attacked by a cat, but with each challenge, there is a learning opportunity.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Wags with Mags is a pet care company taking care of all critters big and small! We offer dog walks, pet drop-ins, sitting, and boarding. From guinea pigs and goats to cats and dogs, we cover it all. Wags with Mags is currently a one-woman operation and offers the one-on-one care your pet may need.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I have always had a love for animals, so having a job where I get to meet and hang out with animals daily makes me happy. I can’t believe I have a job that includes getting a daily endorphin rush from snuggling pups!
