Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Alexis
Hi Madison, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Madison Alexis is an abstract texture artist and Interior Designer on a mission to turn her passion into the career of her dreams. A proud alumna of the prestigious New York Institute of Art & Design, Madison has made a name for herself in the design world, creating art for well-known home décor stores nationwide and collaborating with other talented designers.
“The journey began during the pandemic,” Madison shares. “We just got married and now had a home to make our own. It all started with the dining room—I wanted a large piece of art to fill an empty wall. Empty walls scare me!
My husband is a wonderful carpenter, so together, we built a 6×9 canvas from scratch. One motto in design is: “if color is intimidating, use texture!” so why not stand by that that motto for art! That’s how my admiration of “impasto” was born. I started getting orders and it made me realize I had a new found passion and wanted to do this permanently! So, I went to school for Art & Design and never looked back.”
What truly drives Madison is the joy she feels when a client’s vision comes to life. “There’s a magic in that moment when everything falls into place, it’s about more than just making a space look good—it’s about creating environments that also make people feel good.” she explains. Every project is an opportunity to push the boundaries of design, and she is constantly striving to craft spaces that leave a lasting impression.
Looking ahead, Madison is excited to continue evolving as both an artist and designer. Passionate about creating spaces that tell stories and evoke emotions, she’s eager to see where her journey takes her next.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is never a smooth road for anyone, it can be intimidating to put yourself out there for others to critique and can lead to that dreaded imposter syndrome. But what I’ve learned is that you’ll never get anywhere if you don’t take that first step and push past those fears.
another challenge was moving to a different state, at first, it felt like I had to start over. but that was far from the truth!
I decided to lean in and embrace the change with a fresh perspective. that shift in mindset opened up so many new opportunities—ones I wouldn’t have had if I hadn’t been willing to step out of my comfort zone and welcome the unknown.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m most known for my textured abstract art, and interior design. One of the accomplishments I’m most proud of is having my art featured in a beloved home décor retailer with locations worldwide. Walking into a store and seeing my art on display is honestly the most rewarding feeling!
An event I’m most proud of was a wedding in NYC. I was commissioned to design and build custom 13’ arched canvases from scratch. 6 of them.
Each one had hand piped 3D flowers and vines from top to bottom. Oh, and they had to be done in 2 weeks. I don’t know how we managed to make it happen but with my amazing team, we did it!
I also love to dabble in all different styles of design. I enjoy working with clients and helping them develop and articulate their personal style, creating spaces that feel uniquely theirs.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Design specifically has always been my ultimate creative outlet from a young age.
Growing up, I was always rearranging my room, experimenting with colors, textures and patterns.
Always looking for new ways to make the space feel unique.
I remember one time my bestie was staying the night and at 2am we decided to paint my room. As one teenager does.
But all we had were old makeup brushes… let’s just say we didn’t get very far. but it’s those silly memories that remind me to always have fun with your passions!
My mom, a natural-born designer with impeccable taste, had a significant influence on me. Watching her transform our childhood home sparked my own passion for design, and I credit her as a key inspiration for the work i’m able to do today.
