Meet Lorne Morris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorne Morris.

Hi Lorne, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised on an island. I had a very humble upbringing. Two bedrooms, one bathroom house with seven people in it. Heat from only a wood stove, no municipal water (we had to get it from the canal) 100% of our protein was hunted and fished. I was an artist since birth. I loved tattoo imagery since I knew what a tattoo was.

At 17, I landed an apprenticeship. I crossed the river drove over an hour to the closest city where I learned to tattoo. This was before tattooing was so mainstream. I learned in a wild-west biker tattoo shop. After that, I bounced all over the country and out. I lived in Florida for eight years. I taught myself to speak another language. I came back to Michigan and opened a tattoo shop with my best friend. We are both members of the same fraternity, Freemasons. I am also a Shriner, we own 27 children’s hospitals in North America and provide health care to children regardless of their ability to pay. As a kid, I had a lot of health problems. I had heart surgery, ear surgery, etc. The Shriners paid for one of my surgeries. That’s what encouraged me to pay it forward and become a shiner myself.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh man, smooth road? No. There was no road for me. I had to hack through the jungle with a machete and create my own road. There’s no clear career path for a tattoo artist. You get in where you fit in.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a tattoo artist. I mainly do black and grey realism. I’m most proud that people choose me to tattoo them. I am currently booked with work 8-10 hours a day, five days a week until 2022. What sets me apart is my genuine gratitude ability to connect with my clients and of course, my drive to constantly create the best possible tattoo for my client. You can view my work on Instagram @Ldmtattoo.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned in being kind. To not take my blessings for granted. You’re never worthy of more until you’re truly grateful for what you have.
