Meet Leah Brueggemann of Leah Brueggemann

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Brueggemann.

Hi Leah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Now I am a Functional Practitioner specializing in helping women balance their hormones naturally. I actually went to college for music thought originally and got my Bachelors’s in piano and voice. When I graduated college, I was diagnosed with fibroadenomas (benign breast tumors). This started my journey into health. I had always had extremely painful and irregular periods, but I always dismissed it as part of being a woman. I started going to different naturopaths and practitioners to try and get rid of my fibroadenomas with little success. I kept trying all of the things specifically for my fibroadenomas while neglecting to look at my health from a holistic viewpoint. Surprise surprise, I should have been paying attention to those painful periods a long time ago!! I finally decided enough was enough, I needed to figure out what was going on. I dove into learning more about the menstrual cycle and what that is actually telling us. Flash forward, I became a functional practitioner and was able to finally heal. I got completely painless periods, shrunk my fibroadenomas, raised my progesterone, and had two healthy pregnancies. I couldn’t keep this a secret, so I had to share it with everyone!

I started sharing more about the menstrual cycle and how it is truly our superpower on social media. My message really resonated with women who also always used to think that periods were just the bane of our existence. From that, my business was born, and I have been able to help hundreds of women balance their hormones naturally through nutrition and lifestyle.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I actually started my business when my firstborn was three months old, and my husband was in grad school. So, I would definitely say that it hasn’t been smooth. I had a passion for helping women understand their hormones, but to be honest, the technology side of things was very frustrating to me. As a new business, I couldn’t hire out any of it, so I just put my blinders on and bootstrapped everything. I didn’t pay attention to what other coaches were doing in the health space; I stayed focused on simply helping women. Some of the bigger bumps along the way were the tears shed over my computer deleting hours and hours of work; this was 100% user error, but when you don’t have a lot of time to start out with it is hard! The countless late nights as I tried to juggle taking care of my baby during the day and building my business during naps and after his bedtime.

Another bump, I would say is definitely going viral on social media. I know that this is the dream for so many to make your business explode, but it has a dark side. Whenever I went viral it brought a host of trolls, bullies, and horrible comments. I really had to work on managing the emotional side of social media. I hired a coach, and I work with her to this day; you need someone in your corner

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Functional Practitioner specializing in helping women balance their hormones naturally. I run functional labs and help them make the necessary lifestyle and nutritional shifts to actually heal their body. I really am proud of the fact that I have built an incredible team to support all of these women. When you are healing it is an extremely vulnerable time; most of them are dealing with issues that they don’t feel comfortable talking about. I have created a safe place for these women where they are comfortable asking questions and really understanding what is going on with their bodies. With the help of my team, we are able to be there for them during the week answering questions and supporting them along the way. So often you will go to a provider’s office and get your protocol, but then as you implement it you have so many questions that don’t get answered until your next visit weeks from now. Since my business is virtual, I am able to answer those questions in real-time so that all of my clients feel seen and supported throughout their journey. This keeps them accountable and helps them actually reach their goals!

I am obsessed with helping my clients look for the root issue. So often, when my clients have had labs run in the past, they just looked at the lab result and took it at face value. I don’t do that; I look at them as part of their health puzzle piece. Labs are a part of the equation, but you need to put it together with their health history, their lifestyle, etc. For example, if a client came back with a lab showing high estrogen, I wouldn’t just put her on a supplement to lower that estrogen I would be asking why the estrogen is high and digging deeper to find the answer.

Even though I work with women with all different types of hormonal issues, I am definitely known as the woman that is constantly talking about how period cramps aren’t normal and you can actually get rid of them!!

I have two signature offers for women, my group program the Hormone Reset, and private coaching, Hormone Reset Premium Access. In the Hormone Reset, we are really focused on the foundations of hormonal balance; you have trainings, group calls, and so much support as you implement! In the Hormone Reset Premium Access, we focus on the foundations of hormonal balance but also run functional labs. This container is definitely for the woman that wants to dive deep right away, it is very personalized and high touch.

My podcast, Balancing Hormones Naturally, is an amazing tool that helps provide women with more education and awareness on their hormones. I have so many trainings in there and amazing interviews with different experts in their field.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
My business is virtual, so social distancing didn’t really affect it. Where I did see a big difference was actually in my clients, a lot of them had lingering side effects from Covid -19 like prolonged menstrual bleeding, loss of taste and we had to do a lot of work to help them return to normalcy. The biggest thing I learned here is that I HAVE to listen to my client’s experience, no matter how many clients I have worked with. Their experience is valid even if there isn’t a lot of information on it; this became very relevant during Covid-19 since there wasn’t a lot of information out there on how it affected the menstrual cycle. Every client’s experience is valid.
