Meet Lauren Margo of Golden Rule Tattoo Parlour

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Margo.

Lauren Margo

Hi Lauren, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My journey into tattoo artistry began as a child. Growing up, I could always be found drawing. I found it was an escape into another world. During those formative years, a great deal of my most impactful experiences were with art teachers, and those had a huge influence on my life and what I do now. I feel this reflects the colorful style I prefer when approaching any project. I was lucky to have supportive friends and family members who encouraged anything pertaining to my artistic passions. Essentially, art and music have laid the path for me and now my life!

I started tattooing right out of high school and have had the honor of learning from some amazing tattoo artists over the years. Now, 18 years into tattooing, I’m very fortunate to have my own studio space to share with the world. I enjoy spending time with my clients, getting to know them on a personal level, and creating custom pieces that speak to who they are. I believe there is a positive connection when spending time engaging with potential tattoos, either large or small. I am looking forward to building my client base in Northern Michigan in my newly renovated private tattoo studio.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It has been a dream come true opening my tattoo studio, but it hasn’t come without challenges. Running your own business is time-consuming, and I have found that with so many things that “must” be done, I often feel there is never enough time in the day.

Additionally, it has been a challenge to maintain confidence while starting my own business. With so many unknown factors, I have had to let my passion for art drive me to push through to gain the confidence to put my business out there. As a new business owner, I have also been challenged by the ebbs and flows of a client-facing business. It has forced me to be prepared by carefully maintaining a budget and planning for slower seasons.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Golden Rule Tattoo Parlour is a female-owned tattoo studio located in Northern Michigan. It has talented and creative artists who take pride in their work and the craft of tattooing. Our goal is to advance the art form of tattooing and build one-of-a-kind tattoos designed to suit each individual’s tattooing needs. We aim to design tattoos for those interested in high-quality work while keeping the craft of tattooing intact. We take pride in having a state-inspected, meticulously clean environment and a positive atmosphere.

I specialize in Japanese imagery and traditional American tattoo styles, and I also offer a variety of unique tattoos. My portfolio features an array of animals, flowers, nature-inspired designs, and wildlife artistry, along with classic traditional tattoos and vintage illustrations. However, I’m open to any creative concept my clients want to throw my way. I enjoy the collaborative process of designing custom tattoos for my clients and always work to be sure they will truly love their tattoos.

New customers can reach out to me at [email protected] to discuss their custom tattoo ideas. If you’re coming from out of town, we can do the consultation through email, but if you’re in Northern Michigan, we love to do in-person consultations.

How do you define success?
I would define success as being able to follow your passion and bringing in the financial rewards that allow you to be generous, help others, and live life with flexibility. Success looks like building a life where you have something to do, something to love, and something to look forward to.
