Meet Lala Trips of The LT Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lala Trips.

Hi Lala, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I got my start working in fashion at my first job at 16 years old at a luxury women’s fashion boutique that housed a mix of designer and contemporary brands. From there I continued my work in fashion through blogging, briefly studying design, working at different apparel retailers until eventually getting a job in my early 20s at a top luxury department store.

When I decided to take my career in fashion seriously, I took a huge leap, there weren’t many options for working in the fashion industry in Detroit at that time. But I decided to stay in Detroit because the thought of contributing to the rebuild of the fashion industry excited me.

My drive and desire to work in a space that was inspiring, where I could connect with people, express my passion for the art of fashion and that was luxurious was ideal. And so, I went on to work my way up at major brands including Neiman Marcus, Halston, Anthropologie, and Intermix.

In 2021, after years in the fashion retail industry, it was time to focus my attention on building my fashion business. Now my work includes luxury styling services for women and consulting/coaching fashion brands and retail stores.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, not at all. But I can say looking back, everything happened as it needed and it all has contributed to where I am now, pushing me further, making me stronger.

Some of the struggles that I experienced… there’s been many struggles but the one that sticks out right now is working as a black woman in luxury.

There were many moments over the years that required maintaining composure and taking the high road.

Examples being:

When I stood firm in my opinions and spoke up, I was told I was angry.

And when I was being compassionate and optimistic, I was told I was too positive.

Those times that though I had a record of being hardworking and loyal, others with less qualifications and ability were favored. And when I was shown that though I was a superior to an associate, that they could easily voice their feelings and be favored. I could probably think of more but in all honesty, I like to maintain my positive energy. And just let the struggles be experiences that helped me be an even stronger badass boss woman. Period.

We’ve been impressed with The LT Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The LT Studio is a luxury fashion and lifestyle brand. Currently, we focus on personalized styling/image/wardrobe services for women, curating elevated experiences, and consulting fashion brands & retail stores. Being based in Detroit, we’re setting the tone for what luxury is with creative edge, some soul, and a focus on experience.

For image and wardrobe services, we work with women entrepreneurs, public figures, and business executives to elevate and curate their unique style.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Keep going, keep moving forward! This is a marathon not a sprint.
