Hi Lakeita, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started as a new mother searching for the best way to positively influence my daughter’s life. At first, my goal was simply to increase my weekly income. What began as a second job soon became a window of opportunity that would completely change the direction of my life.
I was working part-time at a jewelry store to help cover bills and provide for my daughter—the familiar story of a single mother doing what needed to be done. While working there, I became intrigued by the stories customers and coworkers shared about real estate. I also discovered that I had a gift for helping people navigate the emotions behind major decisions.
Jewelry can be one of the most meaningful and expensive purchases a person makes. It often represents love, commitment, celebration, or a new beginning. That experience taught me how to support people during vulnerable moments. Eventually, that gift translated naturally into real estate, where I could help people make life-changing decisions, create stability, and secure their future.
One year after earning my real estate license, I was unexpectedly fired from my corporate job. Although the experience was difficult, I realized I had already been prepared for the next chapter. I decided to give real estate everything I had and pursue a life that felt whole rather than one shaped by survival and trauma. It was my opportunity to show my daughter what grace, faith, and growth could look like in real time.
That was nine years ago. Today, my daughter and I are both are working our own businesses. Our journey has not always been easy, but we are blessed, not perplexed. I am grateful that what began as a need for additional income became a calling to help others move confidently toward a better future.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. In many ways, the journey has taught me what true faith really looks like…which is trusting that my present needs will be met while continuing to hope and work toward future success. One of the biggest adjustments was learning how to manage inconsistent income. Bills arrive on a routine schedule, but real estate closings do not. Coming from a structured payroll system, I had to develop an entirely new level of financial discipline, planning, and patience. I also had to recalibrate what happiness and stability looked like for both me and my daughter. Building a business required sacrifice, and that can be difficult when the person you love most is the same person you want to give the world to. I had to learn that showing her discipline, perseverance, and delayed gratification was also a form of providing for her.
Another challenge was continuing forward despite the outside voices that did not always understand or believe in the vision or rather not understand it. Whether those voices came from family, the media, or the uncertainty surrounding the real estate industry. Not everyone shared the same hope or faith that I carried, so I had to become deeply rooted in what I believed God had called me to do. The road has included uncertainty, sacrifice, and plenty of recalibration, but each challenge has strengthened my faith and shaped me into a more disciplined businesswoman, mother, and leader.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed real estate professional. I currently operate under the Brokerage of Superior Home Realty alongside my longtime neighborhood friend. Investing in others to see their own potential outside of their circumstances and doing the work is what I specialize in. What sets me apart from others is my practice of faith through consultation. Expressing needs and refining them for proper property alignment. I want readers to know that real estate is a real decision that does not just involve the exchange of goods and services, but involves relationships, reasoning, and refinement. It’s all in what you make it. 🙂
