Meet Kyler Phillips

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyler Phillips.

Hi Kyler, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My passion for photography began when I snuck my dad’s camera on a summer trip up north. After graduating college, I was eager to find a way to combine my passions for photography and outdoor recreation, with a successful career path. After working at a wake boat dealership, I decided I needed to trade in my surfboard for my skis and get back to a sport I knew I loved. Now working as a content specialist at Boyne Mountain, I am truly able to promote to benefits of outdoor recreation and Boyne Resorts commitment to create a more sustainable ski industry.

I am also growing my presence in the freelance marketing scene. After launching my first website kylerjphoto.com, I am now working with clients in the Petoskey area for digital marketing and photography services!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a member of the LGBT community, I had and still have my fair share of insecurities on not fitting into the normal realms of our society. But having an amazing network of family, friends, and colleagues who support me every step of the way makes the journey worthwhile. Graduating college during a pandemic was no easy task either. Faced with a mass of uncertainty, I approached the situation head-on and made the best out of it, and worked my way up to the position I am in today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a content specialist at Boyne Mountain the best part about my job is selling the thrill of outdoor and winter recreation to everyone! From zip-lines to ripping corduroy, I never get over how special it is to be able to blur the line between work and play on almost a daily basis.

As a freelance creative, I love bringing a client’s ideas or suggestions to life. Delivering quality images in a timely and genuine manner is how I strive to make my mark in the community.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The ski industry is growing at extraordinary rates. This past winter, Boyne Mountain experienced some of its busiest days on record. More people are getting back into winter sports and it is exciting to see people dusting off their skis and hitting the slopes again! With chairlift upgrades in progress, we are stoked to be able to bring a next-level experience to our riders this upcoming season.
