Meet Kirk Welsh of HouseWarming, Flooring Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirk Welsh.

Hi Kirk, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey has always been about building, long before HouseWarming, Flooring Company ever existed.

I began my career as a licensed architect, spending over a decade designing buildings and learning how spaces shape the way people live, work, and feel. Architecture trained me in precision, discipline, and long-term thinking, but more importantly, it taught me respect for the details most people never see. Over time, I realized I wasn’t just passionate about design. I was deeply drawn to execution, ownership, and the responsibility of bringing visions to life in the real world.

HouseWarming, Flooring Co. was born from that realization.

As I worked more closely with homeowners, property managers, and contractors, I saw a major gap in the construction industry: a lack of reliability, communication, and trust. Flooring, one of the most impactful elements of any space, was often treated as transactional, rushed, or inconsistent. I knew it could be done differently. Better. With more integrity.

So I stepped away from a traditional career path and built HouseWarming as a flooring company with a simple but uncompromising standard: do the work right, communicate clearly, and honor people’s time, homes, and investments. What started as a hands-on operation has grown into a trusted flooring partner serving Southeast Michigan, known for speed, professionalism, and accountability.

Today, HouseWarming represents more than flooring. It represents a mindset rooted in discipline, faith, and alignment. My journey hasn’t been linear or easy, but it has been intentional. Every step, from architecture to entrepreneurship, has shaped how I lead, how I serve clients, and how I build businesses meant to last.

At its core, my story is about choosing alignment over comfort and committing to excellence in everything I touch.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I don’t believe meaningful paths ever are.

Leaving a stable, respected career to build something from the ground up required a deep level of faith and discipline. Entrepreneurship exposes you quickly. There is no hiding from your decisions, your systems, or your mindset. Every challenge forced me to take ownership, adapt fast, and grow in ways a traditional career never demanded.

One of the biggest struggles was learning to shift from being highly trained to being highly responsible. As an architect, excellence is expected within a structured environment. As a founder, you are responsible for creating the structure itself, the culture, the standards, and the outcomes. That transition required humility, resilience, and an entirely new level of leadership.

Another challenge was redefining success in real time. Growth does not always look like momentum. Sometimes it looks like refinement, patience, and saying no to opportunities that do not align with your values or long-term vision. I had to learn that integrity and sustainability matter more than speed.

There were moments of uncertainty, pressure, and self-doubt. But each season strengthened my conviction. The obstacles shaped how I lead today with clarity, calm, and a commitment to doing things the right way, even when it is the harder way.

Looking back, the challenges were not detours. They were the training ground.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about HouseWarming, Flooring Co.?
HouseWarming is a modern flooring company built on trust, precision, and accountability.

We specialize in flooring installation for general contractors, property managers, and business owners throughout Southeast Michigan, with a focus on projects that demand speed, coordination, and clear communication. Flooring is often one of the final and most visible elements of a space, and we treat it with the level of care and professionalism it deserves. Our work includes luxury vinyl plank, carpet, and full flooring solutions for renovations, turnovers, and occupied homes.

What sets HouseWarming apart is not just what we install, but how we operate.

The flooring industry has long been known for inconsistency, missed timelines, and poor communication. We built our company to be the opposite of that. From estimating to scheduling to final walkthrough, our clients know what to expect, when to expect it, and who to contact at every step. Reliability, responsiveness, and respect are not add-ons for us. They are the foundation.

Brand-wise, what I am most proud of is the reputation we are building. Clients trust us with their projects, their investments, and their deadlines. That trust is earned through disciplined processes, high standards, and doing what we say we are going to do. Every project is approached with the mindset that our name is attached to the outcome.

What I want readers to know is that HouseWarming, Flooring Co. is not transactional. We are a partner. Whether someone is refreshing a property, managing multiple units, or preparing a home for sale, our goal is to make the flooring process feel seamless, professional, and handled with care.

At its core, HouseWarming represents a belief that integrity still matters, and how you do business is just as important as the work itself.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I don’t see myself as a risk-taker in the traditional sense. I see myself as a disciplined decision-maker.

For me, risk is not about chasing uncertainty or betting on impulse. It is about alignment. The biggest risks I have taken were not reckless moves, but conscious choices to step away from comfort when I knew I had outgrown it. Leaving a stable career, starting a business from the ground up, and taking full responsibility for outcomes were significant risks on paper. In reality, they felt necessary.

My approach to risk is rooted in preparation and faith. I study the downside, build structure, and make sure my values are intact before moving forward. When risk is anchored in integrity and clarity, it becomes less about fear and more about trust in the work you have done.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that avoiding risk can be its own form of risk. Staying in environments that no longer align with who you are becoming slowly erodes your potential. Growth requires courage, but it also requires restraint. Not every opportunity is worth pursuing, and saying no can be just as powerful as taking a leap.

At this stage of my life and business, I think about risk as responsibility. Responsibility to lead well, to protect the people who trust me, and to build something sustainable. When risk is approached with discipline, humility, and purpose, it becomes a tool for growth rather than a threat.
