Meet Kerry Doman of LittleGuide Detroit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerry Doman.

Hi Kerry, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory. 
I’m a serial entrepreneur that has had the incredible opportunity to start businesses that reflect the state of my life and lifestyle. I started in my 20s with my first business – called After 5 Detroit. It was all about highlighting the vibrant lifestyle that downtown Detroit had to offer for young professionals. Being a young professional myself, it was such a fun way to gather people together, meet new people in and around the city, discover great places to eat, drink, live, and play for myself and for others like me. 

As I got older and started a family, I traded the nightlife for kid life. And subsequently, I translated everything I learned about starting, growing, and running a successful online media resource into what is now LittleGuide Detroit – the largest online media resource for families throughout Metro Detroit. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No entrepreneur’s road is smooth! There have been plenty of bumps, swerves, and even crashes along the way. But the best advice I can give is to surround yourself with people who are amazing in the areas that you lack skills or expertise. Help everyone so that when you need help, they’re there to lift you up. 

Entrepreneurs have to do it all – accounting, management, marketing, etc. We can’t possibly be amazing at all of these areas of expertise. So, again, find what you’re great at, stick to that – then find people who are great where you lack.

LittleGuide Detroit is the largest online media resource for families throughout Metro Detroit. I started LittleGuide nearly 7 years ago as a new mom looking for ways to engage with my son, meet other moms/parents, and explore the city and surrounding suburbs. I now have 3 kids and the largest resource for information, inspiration, and ideas for local parents to discover all the amazing opportunities for families to live a more active and connected life throughout the year. 

How do you define success?
Success is a moving target. Some days, it’s your revenue. Some days, it’s a happy team and work culture. Some days, it a large new contract and client. Some days, it’s that you survived another day.
