Meet Kelli Ferguson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelli Ferguson.

Kelli, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Like many other women, I dreamed of becoming a mother since I was a little girl. I remember picturing my future family, a husband, me, and two kids… all images drawn from the happy faces smiling in the JC-Penny catalog. I didn’t realize that there would be bumps along my journey to motherhood. I couldn’t comprehend that I would sit through numerous doctor visits and go through several surgeries only to be told that my chances of naturally conceiving were virtually nil.

Through this process of pain, shame, and disappointment, I was able to find a deeper relationship with God and learn to love the daughter, wife, and yes mother that He created me to be. While I may not yet have children of my own, I’ve found the courage to share my journey and ‘birth’ a devotional to help other women during their ‘meantime’ periods. Today I am a published author, Bible study leader, speaker, and business owner passionate about spreading joy, hope, and encouragement to all women going through similar circumstances.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting on my journey to becoming an author has been an interesting process. For me, writing the book was the easy part. A lot of healing occurred during that time in my life. The challenges that I faced after getting published was trying to market the book while working full time as well as building a brand that further expanded upon my testimony. It has been difficult staying consistent and creative with social media interaction.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I believe that every barren place has the potential to produce great fruit. I specialize in helping women to find or re-discover their true identity after experiencing conception/adoption/fostering challenges. During our ‘meantime’ periods on our roads to motherhood, it’s not enough to simply reach the end result of a successful pregnancy. I want to encourage women to learn to…

1. build their resilience (so that they have the inner strength to withstand any negative report that comes their way);

2. birth their dreams (showing them the multitude of avenues and ways that we can become mothers); and

3. find their balance (helping them post-pregnancy/adoption/promotion, etc. to be not only the best mother for their child(ren)/project/endeavor but also be the best version on themselves for their health, their spouse and their community.

What sets me apart from other authors and/or organizations that focus on overcoming fertility challenges is that I’m trying to address the whole person – with or without child – so that they can learn to thrive no matter where their path takes them.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
There are so many people to thank it’s hard to begin. First and foremost (as those who grew up in a Baptist church could appreciate), I want to give honor and glory to God who is the head of my life. But really, I’m so grateful for my relationship with God. It is only through His salvation, peace, grace, and love that I’m who I am today.

I’m forever grateful to God for blessing me with my wonderful husband, Hugh, who has walked this journey with me and is always there to support me. I’ve been blessed with sisters that share my DNA and those that have become sisters through the bonds of friendship that encourage and push me to be better each day – Jessica Feliz, Georgina Tait, Krislynn Thompson, Kristina Treadwell, Jolene Ferguson, Robin Hall, Chavonne Thompson, Valon Ford and so many more. I’m grateful for my family – Barbara Smith, Margie Bond, Sheree Johnson, and Dorothy Buckman – who remind me of how much of my own mother and grandmother that they see in me.
