Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelynn Corll.
Hi Katelynn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I am a touring drummer/multi-instrumentalist and have been performing professionally for 12 years now. Music has always been a part of my life for as long as I can remember! I grew up watching my older brothers playing piano and started piano lessons myself when I was 5. It’s music that also led me to pyrography. In 2015, I joined a band called Wolf and the Crane. I would switch between playing my washboard and my full drum kit depending on the song and thought it would be neat to wood burn the band’s logo into the top of the washboard. So, I did! It was my first experience with pyrography, and I truly fell in love with the process. At that point in my life, I was so busy with shows and rehearsals that I didn’t truly pursue wood burning as a business until the pandemic hit in 2020. The music industry was a ghost town, and I had no shows to get ready for. If I did, they were few and far between. With so much time on my hands, I started getting restless, and that desire to fill my time reignited my love of wood burning. It started with coaster set orders from friends and has kept growing from there! I’ve done custom commissions from video game character art to favorite movies to floral decor and band merchandise!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would say it has been a fairly smooth road but still filled with a ton of learning curves and small hurdles! I mainly say this because pyrography became very therapeutic for me at a very challenging time. I was very grateful for the creative outlet when my career was put on pause like so many other musicians around the world. It was exciting to learn more about this craft and how to turn it into something bigger!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a freelance musician, available for touring and recording sessions either as a drummer, bassist, guitarist, vocalist, or pianist! Over the last 18 months, I’ve been touring nationally and internationally, drumming for an incredibly kind and talented artist named Chloe Moriondo. During my time working with her, I’ve also had the amazing opportunities of performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Late Show with James Cordon, as well as a recording session in London for BBC Radio. As a “hired gun,” it’s really important to be well-rounded and comfortable performing many different styles of music. Having played in projects ranging from Country to Metal, hard rock, R&B, acoustic, and pop/hyperpop, I feel what sets me apart from others is the constant desire to learn more and the ability to adapt to whatever project I am currently involved in!
Any big plans?
Unfortunately, I can’t share it with you all yet, but I have been working on a VERY big wood-burning project right now! It is a dream project that I’m still pinching myself every day over, so be sure to follow my Instagram account to stay up to date with all news and new items! As soon as I’m able to share more, I will definitely be posting about it! But until then, I am having a blast working on the custom orders of coasters and wall plaques I’ve got lined up at the moment!
