Meet Justin Bailey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Bailey.

Justin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Shortly after the covid pandemic, I started working somewhere new and met a now good friend of mine John (Murrel) Mireles. He lit a fire under me and convinced me to pursue music. I’ve always had a passion for singing and music in general but didn’t have the confidence in myself to go after it like I am now. I owe a lot to Murrel for pushing me out of my comfort zone while also believing in me. I used to struggle with believing in myself as an artist, but with every song I write and record, I get better, and I learn new things, and that’s honestly all I could ask for. I’ve only been recording and seriously making music for almost a couple years now, so I’m excited to see where I’ll end up in the future. One of my goals as an artist is to make music that people can connect to and vibe with. I know what it’s like when I hear a song that I fall in love with, and I want to be able to give that feeling to others. Another primary goal I have for myself is to improve my writing and my voice with every song I make. I look for any and every excuse to sing and work on my music.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest obstacle has been me. I could’ve starting recording and making music much earlier in my life, but I let what others thought of me get in the way. The biggest fear I had was what other people thought of my voice and my music. I had an extreme lack of confidence that I sometimes still struggle with. Every time I feel myself start creeping back into my shell, I just remember why I make music. And simply put, it just makes me happy. A challenge that I faced early on was learning to write to the energy of a specific beat. It’s one thing to just write for the sake of writing. But once you feel the emotion/energy of a beat, it can sometimes be difficult to find the words behind what you feel.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I sing and write music! I mainly do R&B and pop music which I am probably most known for, but I can also sing a jazz/rock sound which makes me really diverse, and I think that sets me apart from others. I’m most proud of the fact that I finally have music out on streaming platforms, which always used to be a dream I thought would never come true.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
I’m still kind of just starting out myself, but some simple advice I would give to others would be to remember why you do what you do. Remember the dream and the aspirations you have, and don’t lose sight of them. When you reach those goals, don’t be afraid to set new ones. Never be satisfied.
